Guest guest
I know, Isn't it interesting how all the pieces of the puzzle come together. My mother is an Aspie and I've always known that there was something about her and now I can understand why she acts the way she does...She has a special bond with my son and not because they KNOW that they both have Aspergers, but because they HAVE Aspergers...She is not officially diagnosed but I don't think it would be any more beneficial than just to know about it and let your loved ones know, so they can be more patient and understanding. Want to hear something interesting?...My mom went in for jury duty and I was so surprised at first, that they would even choose her to be on a case because of her simple mindedness and she always misunderstands things...but I guess they try to get a variety of people on the jury...She was so PROUD of herself. > > Hi all > > I've only been reading about Aspergers/autism since my gorgeous boy's > problems have come to light, but the more I read, the more I recognise > myself. Guest guest
It would really help me to get a diagnosis. Although I'm extremely academically intelligent, I don't find the simple things of life easy at all, and have suffered from depression for most of my adult life. My social skills are learnt, and I can function pretty well, but I do find it difficult, and relationships are so hard! I wouldn't describe myself as simple-minded in any way, although things tend to be in black and white rather than shades of grey! A diagnosis would probably not make my 'loved ones' any more understanding. They're kind of past that point. But it may help me to overcome some of the things I find hardest. x
Guest guest
Me too. Same story. My interest in knowing has a lot to do with understanding my 5 yr old son and his prognosis. I certainly have at least the shadows of AS. But I wonder how I would appear if I could see myself when I was 5. If I DO have what my son has, it would ease my mind. I've not had an easy time of it, but I've always been fond of myself, have made my way in the world, maintained some friendships, married a lovely woman, and of course, had a child! > > Hi all > > I've only been reading about Aspergers/autism since my gorgeous boy's > problems have come to light, but the more I read, the more I recognise > myself. Guest guest
I see your point; Your situation is quite different than that of my mom's...She isn't academically intelligent at all, in fact it took her 6 tries before she gave up on getting her GED...It's sad but one thing that was good was that she didn't even realize most people would feel ashamed about that, Not her, she doen't over think little situations like most people do which is why most people are stressed out... Guest guest
I got a score of 26. I suppose that should mean something except for one glaring exception. I would be one of those theorized but never really proven Aspies with a near extreme female brain, not male. That means I am very empathetic and very good at reading people. Since lack of empathy seems to be the de-rigueur qualification for Aspergers, until they acknowledge people like me as actually existing, I'll just continue to be the eccentric weirdo :-). Guest guest
Hi , My name is , too and I have the diagnosis. I love the links other people have posted. I can say the only reason I got the 'official' diagnosis was to self affirm what I felt, and shove that paper in my hubbies face (he handled it well, too) to say < " See, I am an Aspie, and I am a good person!) In one of your other posts (talking more about yourself) you sound just like me. I handle things pretty well (mostly anyway) and I don't know of anyone that just knew except a new friend of mine that is H.F.A. She just knew. Other people basically think of me as Hyper, waaaay to talkative, but very outgoing (this is new for me!) *smiles* B > > Hi all > > I've only been reading about Aspergers/autism since my gorgeous boy's > problems have come to light, but the more I read, the more I recognise > myself. Guest guest
I took that test (thanks for the link) BUT I DON'T GET IT? it shows answers correct and incorrect. How can we have INCORRECT anwers to a quiz that asks us information about ourselves,,,,, and also, what does it all mean? hheelllp:) Thanks B > > Here is one of them.. I hope it helps.. But yup.. Guest guest
I got a 23 but can you figure out what that means? I couldn't. I can say I do have empathy, but only if I have been through the situation (otherwise, I am forcing it or faking it, WHICH I THINK I DO REALLY WELL:) sorry about that *grin* I am AWFUL at reading people, but I think I am a getting better at it. It is constantly changing though. NT's are so hard to get?!?!?! I do like eccentric Weirdo:) Easier to understand. hehehe *smiles* lisa B > > I got a score of 26. Guest guest
Now those were really cool too. Thanks for sharing. I did Ok on the first test, then HIGH on the Autism Spectrum Quotient. I think I might hide that result. hahaha. I did ok on Empathy (Ok being that I was more Aspie than NT) and the eyes, I did pretty good (I got a 24) 22 they say you have problems reading faces. (OK I guessed A LOT BUT I am proud at what I got) hehehe. Ok maybe that is low, but I see the eyes, not the face. No wonder I can't figure this stuff out *smiles* lisa B \ > > Here are some more in depth tests by Baron Cohen. Guest guest
I also got 23 (which happens to be my favourite number) but I also do not really understand what " above average " means... more 'odd' than most?? Guest guest
Hi B I'm a B too . I just feel a need to understand what has happened to me, and why I have the issues/outlooks I do. Thanks for your reply - it makes a huge difference to know that there may be a reason! *hug* > > Hi , > My name is , too and I have the diagnosis. > I love the links other people have posted. > I can say the only reason I got the 'official' diagnosis was to self > affirm what I felt, and shove that paper in my hubbies face (he > handled it well, too) to say < " See, I am an Aspie, and I am a good > person!) > In one of your other posts (talking more about yourself) you sound > just like me. > I handle things pretty well (mostly anyway) and I don't know of > anyone that just knew except a new friend of mine that is H.F.A.
