Guest guest
And I am sitting here after another interesting round of emails with last year's teacher, at my initiation. I gotta say, that guy is a trooper to deal with ME. I am still awaiting an answer from the principal about this year's teacher's inservice and meeting before the school year. School starts next Tuesday. Geez, let it better than last year. Jackie
Guest guest
My son is at his absolute worst during the summer as well. All the fighting and arguing...I love that Staples commercial from a few years back, " It's the most wonderful time of the year... " w/the dad riding the shopping cart throwing school supplies in it and the kids are miserable! LOL cracks me up!!! I love my son, but he needs school, routine, friends uh well at least classmates. he can't do the friend thing. Everyone that gives him the time of day for one second is suddenly his " best friend " . __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Wow,I'm So Sorry you all have to go through those problems with School. We are looking forward to school this year only because Annie has a teacher who not only has taken special Classes and some OT classes on how to help AS and PDD kids not only tht because she is a suicide survivor (parent) she is our local ARC president as such she is helping us to reestablish our local chapter to help not just the kids in her class but all the AS kids and adults in our county. I wish you all the best and would like to know if any of you have local ARC chapters that could help you with the school problems?
Guest guest
My son's highest frustration is school. I wish we had more available here for him. The public school was awful for him, but he liked being with all his friends. The school he goes to now is for kids with behavior problems, not exactly geared for AS but it is waayyy better than public school. However, he doesn't have many friends because the class size and school are small and kids are from all over the county and neighboring counties, so not always close either. He is not the best at making friends either, but really wants to have more friends, we live out of the city, in a rural area, so not really any close neighbors with kids either. He is not good at sports, he loves swimming, but there are no close swim lessons/teams close either. As a mother I want to do more, to help him have more friends, but not that easy here. I will make sure we don't have problems at school this year. :-) I noticed they just posted a new ad at our school for an additional (or maybe replacement, I don't know) special ed teacher for LD. That's who we get, they don't have an autism designation in our state. They are also advertising for a vice prin with special ed experience. And, I looked at the middle school and found out the name of the new autism resource gal over there. According to the state license board, it doesn't look like she was employed in the state anywhere last year. You mean I am the only one that looks for these kinds of things? Guest guest
I'm so glad we're not the only ones looking forward to school!!! LOL! Our boy is 6 and starting First Grade on the 21st. He's VERY excited! So are we..... *maniacal laughter* He's currently in a licking phase. It can end any day now. Really! Gross. My aunt has a son w/ AS and a host of other neuro-disorders and she'll be visiting us (just her, my cousin is 17 now) later this month. I'm VERY excited because she hasn't seen Max since he was 5 mos old and she'll be here for his first day of school. The last week has been chaotic, at best, so I'm counting down the days at this point! ~

Guest guest
You are too funny Sandy! My boys need those loving tones but with a ring to it (high pitched) almost singing like. (that is if they are occupied.) it is the only way to get their attention. How old is your son with ODD? School... ahh the pleasure to many moms and dads. *grin* lisa > > My ds age 9 does not respond well to sweet loving tones; He always > responds better when he is yelled at severely. Guest guest
Hey, I just want to input some free advice. I don't mean to judge or anything like that (uhoh) but I want to give you some food for thought. If, that is IF you call him " the jerk " to his face, this could be very detrimental to his health. I grew up being told that I would be worthless to anyone or for anything. Granted,I was outright abused, but even something meant to get your point across can be taken totally the wrong way. It may well be that he doesn't really enjoy what he goes through when he is out of control. He may actually feel very guilty for it. Changing behaviour with ODD isn't easy either. It takes time. Hope I haven't offended or anything, just hope that he isn't in earshot. I know it's tough though, my stepson is getting out of Boys Town next week and he is ODD and 12. He is remarkably a different boy, but that took nearly a year of aggressive therapy and training. Well, love and peace and all, Dave- -- In , " advocateforaspies " <advocateforaspies@...> wrote: > > *ouch* > > > > > > > How old is your son with ODD? > > Brad is 8 yrs old...He was up til 2am this morning ...one thing set > him > > off last night and that was it, the monster came out...we call him > the > > JERK > > > > > School... ahh the pleasure to many moms and dads. > > > > > >
Guest guest
Well, now I am worried that I have offended or something like that, it certainly was not my intention. I am just going by my own experience and memories. Anyway, I really hope I haven't offended here.
