Guest guest
Even seemingly innocent shows can have an impact on our AS kids. For the longest time, my 4yr old would ask, " is a car gonna come in the house? " I couldn't figure out where this came from, but he'd ask on a daily basis, sometimes more often, and was genuinely fearful of this happening. I'd reassure him, and he'd repeat my statement, albeit worried. " It's okay, cars don't belong in the house.... " with a worried look on his face. Finally, I realized that one night we watched " Everybody Loves " , the episode where the car comes crashing through the living room, was where he'd gotten it. I felt terrible because I didn't know where his fear was coming from, and then it dawned on me! He never said a thing at the time, but tucked it away, and it came out later. I'll be more careful what I put on from now on in front of him. Penny --------------------------------- Don't be flakey. Get for Mobile and always stay connected to friends. Guest guest
I do 15 minutes reading with my little guy before bed and then he reads by himself for 15 minutes to help tire him out. Guest guest
My kids are also very quiet when I read them a book, they are so interested in the story that they don't even argue. the same with dinner time when we watch a family movie together. That is another time there is no arguing and get along very well. peaceful - yes. Breakfast time we all eat together at the breakfast table. boo hoo, no cereal forts. but we get to talk and have pancakes with semi-sweat chocolate chips all mixed in with the ingredients. I like the way you call your " chapter reading time " the family's way of ending the day. That's a nice tradition...they will remember that forever.. Guest guest
My daughter is required to read 1 AR book a night. She's in 2nd grade reading 4 grade level books. So I have done my part of instilling values in the kids. Problem is my dd reads her book within an hour and they won't let her move up to harder books yet. My son gets read to before bedtime as our " ritual " . So I agree that reading is very important too. > > > Every night, 20 minutes before bedtime, all three of us snuggle > > together on the sofa with a chapterbook, and have " Snuggle and Read > > Time.
