Guest guest
Hi . I'm in Calgary. I'm not native to Canada, I come from California originally so I don't know how far apart we are, but it can't be that far if your close to Edmonton. Yes things are very hmm, interesting around here to be sure!! The biggest battle for me for the last 7 years is keeping my guys from fighting which has been very emotionally draining. It also interferes with trying to keep them moving and growing in more productive ways. That was why I started making the games that I do. The first game I made was to teach them how to understand emotions, how they work, that there are shades to emotions. People are not just happy or sad or happy and mad. My game help understand how emotions cause actions that cause consequences as well. I felt that understanding people would always be their biggest obstacle in life so it made the most sense to start here. Later I took more tried and true games and modified them to meet the needs of an ASD child. Like, teaching them how to take a set of three (later more) commands, like find A+B+C,remembering all those things and then using those things to complete a task. So they learn not only how to stay focused til a task is completed but they stay engaged so that they see the end result of their efforts. There are other games, but in this regard, they are simular. I have also put together a work book for parents that talks about stuff like how to deal with the school system, how to start an family action plan, the pro and con's of meds..etc.. Well, I won't ramble this time... LOL Stay in touch, if you need anything, just write. I don't know if I can help, but sometimes it's just nice to talk to someone who really knows what's going on. Take care, Paddy
Guest guest
Hi Paddy, If you are in Calgary then we are about 3 hours apart give or take a half hour. I am on my way out that way this weekend camping and again the next two weekend for a woman's retreat and a wedding! I don't think I have ever been there so many times in my life never mind one month. I love the zoo there! I drive there just for that. These workbooks that you made for parents are they something that you sell? I would be really interested in something like that. I am feeling a little lost and we have just kept moving on the way we were coping before. We have always played games in our house that I have now realized have been a benefit to my son. I feel that it is important for all children to have emotions named for them so right from day one with all three of my kids I have said " you seem to be frustrated or scared or angry. " Whatever emotion I saw I would verbalize for them. As well we play a game called how am I feeling? Everyone has to take turns making faces and then everyone else playing guesses how they feel. It is a lot of fun and I think it helps some. Anyways if you would let me know about your work books I would be very interested. Thanks so much for the reply! Take care ( ) Re: Paddy O Hi .
