Guest guest
I totally agree with you Sandy! ( ) Re:Kids and Television My husband and I put pretty tight limits on what our kids watch. They're 11, almost 9 and 8. We tell them they are not 13 and they are not allowed to watch PG13 movies. (We made an exception for Star Wars). My 11 year old is not happy with this decision, but we explain to him that God doesn't want us to fill our minds with certain things. Often we are able to handle those things more appropriately when we are more mature. He still knows a lot of info. about the world (we don't shelter him from the truth) but we explain it to him at a level that is appropriate for him. Movies and television don't reflect society (usually), but we often learn a lot of nonsense from the media. Sandy --------------------------------- Now that's room service! Guest guest
Lynn, I definitely don't think that's extreme... this is what works for your family, and you know best. Lynn <lynnmomo1@...> wrote: I'm definitely one of the extreme. My child does not have " live " television in his room. I tape everything for him and check the content (sometimes cuss words, or whole scenes may end up blue screened on his tape). I also take out the commercials. I don't want to be nagged about buying " X " , or hear about a show I won't let him watch. He has a bookshelf full of VCR tapes. It became so many, I boxed up about 50 and he may trade two from his room for one in the box. New tapes are used as a reward if he had an outstanding day at school or therapy visit. I check all his game cartridges he receives as presents, and have a couple put away for when he is older. The only inter-net access is in the living room, so my husband and I may see the sites he visits. I cannot control what happens outside the home, but he gets so negative sometimes and wants to emulate everything he sees, I try to limit what would lead him astray. I also do not trust the rating systems. Too many cartoons are rated " NR " that are really very violent. Lynn --------------------------------- Be a PS3 game guru.
