Guest guest
--- My kids complain of headaches almost every day they come home from school and will have to go to bed to get rid of it. I think it could be stress...at least for my kids. Toni In , " Deb B " <dbecica@...> wrote: > > Does anyone else's child c/o headaches when he/she is doing homework > or being asked questions? Guest guest
Yes, this has been a common complaint of our son with school work. I think, for my son, it is his coping mechanism when the material seems overwhelming to him. He also will complain of light being too bright for his eyes and will actually tear up. Once the problem is resolved or he finds the material easier, the physical symptoms 'magically' disappear. So, in a way it could be viewed simply as an excuse (or 'an act'), but it goes so much further: In their eyes it is very real; so much so that the physical manifestations are a valid reflection of their stressful feelings. > > Does anyone else's child c/o headaches when he/she is doing homework > or being asked questions? Guest guest
My son complained of headaches often escpecially when it came time to read or write. Turns out he needed glasses. He was straining his eyes and it caused headaches. A few days after he was used to wearing his glasses, the headaches disappeared. He started getting them again a few months ago and I figured out he wasn't drinking enough water. He now drinks a minimum of 1 liter a day (more if he's out in the heat) and they are gone. Occasionally he will complain of a headache and usually drinking a glass or two of water helps. Sometimes, I think the headaches are just from stress and after resting in a cool, dark and quiet room for a while, he's fine. - :-) > > Does anyone else's child c/o headaches when he/she is doing homework > or being asked questions? Guest guest
Just had his annual appt with the ped, and his vision was fine. It definitely isn't that he's dehydrated because he's enterally fed and I know exactly how much formula he gets, and when, in addition to the water he drinks. It seems more like stress. He said he has headaches at school, but never told the teacher. He will c/o his head hurting at home when I ask him questions about school (i.e. about his group counseling sessions that I didn't even know he was still having, or specific things that happened during the day), and it also happens when I ask him about his feelings, or why he does certain things (introspective questions). Yesterday, he went to the library with his BA, and then they read one of the books when they got home. They were going to work on his writing assigment (he has summer reading/writing assignments) and he said he couldn't do it because his head hurt. He was holding his head, rubbing it against his hand, closing his eyes, and he really was feeling pain or discomfort. I'll have to bring it up to the Dev Ped when I see her next week. Thanks! Guest guest
Yep, I could have written this post exactly. I tell everyone at the school that " headache " and " stomach ache " and " I'm tired " will often be his coping mechanism. He has to " get out " of the situation, and that will be the way he will do it. While I don't like it, it is extremely effective! While it's really what he's " feeling " at the time (and thus it makes it hard to break the pattern!), he's causing it to happen. It will typically occur in any stressful situation, when his blood sugars are low, when he's overwelmed, when he really is particularly tired and when he's sick. When we changed his med's last fall we found a decrease in the headaches. I think it's because he's better able to cope. DH thinks it's more that we got him off the stimulant med of dexadrine. And, the moment that stressor is removed, he's remarkably better! Velvet <johnvel@...> wrote: Yes, this has been a common complaint of our son with school work. Guest guest
Not in his case. he doesn't get headaches from any of the meds he's on now. I think he previously got headaches from Risperdal, but it's hard to tell if they were pre-existing or not. We did stop that medication a long time ago based upon the c/o headaches. However, he mentioned about a yr & 1/2 ago that he got daily headaches. He just never c/o them. It seemed that he was just used to having them, so they were " normal " . He also had daily stomach pain, so that seemed normal. When he stopped eating and went on his special formula for the GI condition, he told us that the headaches stopped (I know the stomach pain, vomiting, leg/ankle/foot pain, ear infections and " colds " stopped). The headaches he's c/o of now are fleeting, and seem like they are stress-related. They aren't like the migraines or sinus headaches my husband gets, but he used to say " my brain hurts " & now it's " my head hurts " or " you're making my head hurt " . They do seem like an excuse, but I do believe they are real. I just asked him if he gets headaches every day and he said " no " . Maybe it's from anxiety over writing, who knows. Thanks for the thought, though. Debbie > > Could these headaches be side effects of Meds? > > Leanne R. Guest guest
Personally, I would pursue an opthamology exam. They do a much more indepth exam than the pediatrician or school would. That way you could rule out any vision problems. Pam
Guest guest
IF my son is tired or has been under a lot of stress/pressure trying to hold it together, he will sometimes get headaches. We are trying to work on remembering to take some low dose ibuprofen or something when he has them. He just sits there and gets upset because he has a headache and wants the world to stop. We have the same problem with allergies, he can sneeze his head off for 15min until I finally said' go take a pill' then he will. It just doesn't occur to him to remedy it most of the time, he just gets mad because he is in that state. Guest guest
No. His vision has been fine. Exams at the peds and at school were fine. He also doesn't squint at all, doesn't seem to have any focusing problems, etc. Debbie > > Debbie you say he has had a vision exam by his pediatrician...has he seen an > opthalmologist? Guest guest
Hi Jenn,I am assuming you have MS. For people with MS initially taking LDN, Dr. Skip Lenz recommends 1.5 mg nightly for the first month, then 3 mg the next month, and then 4.5 mg.For more information about using LDN to treat MS, visithttp://tinyurl.com/grpm9For a great deal of general information about LDN, visithttp://tinyurl.com/2boot2All the best,Dudley Delany dudley_delanyFrom: Jenn Sent: Tuesday, November 13, 2007 1:58 PM low dose naltrexone Subject: [low dose naltrexone] Headaches? Does this also fall into the 7-10 day category, because I don’t think I can put up with too many of those! I was out of ibuprofen last night, but you can bet I’ll be ready this evening. Guest guest
Hi Dudley, Yes. I have MS. I’m aware of Skip’s instructions, but the neuro prescribed 1.5 mg x1 week; 3.0 mg x1 week; and 4.5 mg as tolerated. However, I was under the impression that the reason for the slow titration was because some folks had leg stiffness and spasticity issues when starting at a higher dose. Because, I had none of these issues (and still don’t on the 3-mg dose), I went ahead and speeded things along. Maybe that was not such a hot idea, eh? I’ll back down and see how things go. Guest guest
Hi Jenn, I started on LDN 12 days ago and I had a headache for a week on 1.5. then it went away and I started on 3.0 -haven't had any headaches since. My neuro also told me to go 1 week on 1.5 and 3.0 another week and then on to 4.5, which I'm going to do because I feel good and less fatigued. I think my headaches/migraines were due to going off amitriptyline 2 days before starting LDN. I forgot it's a pain killer besides an anti-depressive. I am prone to migranes but after 12 days on LDN I didn't get anymore. Miki RE: [low dose naltrexone] Headaches? Hi Dudley, Yes. I have MS.
