Guest guest
, Well I guess I better get this movie somehow and watch it. I've started building my collection of books on this subject and hope to gain some insight into how to handle things quicker then waiting for the professionals since it has taken me 6 long years already. I never really introduced myself and I appreciate that you have all jumped into help me. I live in NE Ohio and currently have 9 children. My husband and I have been married for 25 years and have 4 birth children 2 of them are ADD. Then about 11 years ago we started doing foster care and have adopted 3 children, including a set of twins that are ADHD big time and now the one twin is AS. And we have 2 foster children living with us. The kids range in age 18 months to 23 years old. And yes they are all still living at home. I work part time as a nurse in a local hospital which helps keep me sane I think. How do you all deal with the rages that happen with this disorder? I am having such a hard time with what he does and what he says. He threatens so many things and can be very mean to everyone in our house. Although I am starting to identify certain things that will set him off, like the 2 days a week I have to work but I don't know how to prevent him from raging everytime. The kids all go with me and my husband who also works at the hospital and I switch off so there is no baby sitter involved. My son gets so angry that we have to leave and then the setting in the vehicle is never to his liking or approval and then he rages the whole way there about everything and I do mean everything. I try not to argue with him but he has such a drive that never seems to stop. When he starts getting physical and disrespectful what are you suppose to do? Thanks again for the insight, I hope I can find this movie to view. Suzanne -- Re: ( ) Re: ??? regarding school aides Suzanne- Children are suppossed to be educated in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). This means they cannot just put your son in a school for children with severe bahaviors without trying to educate him in his current placement with proper supports (1-1 aide, counseling with the school therapist, social skills, modifications, etc) If you look up LRE in the IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) you will find more info about this. If he is not currently classified they have to go thru the LRE w/support path before sending him to the MOST restrictive (the special school) Knowing the law is a very powerful tool any time you are working with your school district. My district is quick to point out their " policies " . It's a shame when these policies " don't follow the law because many parents don't understand the difference. As soon as I counteract with what the law says, my school stops arguing. I have yet to hire a lawyer or advocate, I go to the state and federal websites and do the research myself.
