Make a game of it I guess, otherwise the clorox handi wipes I keep in the bathroom. Its no easy solution, my son also uses the moistened wipes for clean up after a BM, works great for him. My son will routinely wet himself.. He doesn't have the bowl issues.. But have you also checked your son for lactose intolerance? Is it explosive and uncontrolled that way? -- ( ) Re: Afraid to touch My son who is now 11 has just started standing up when urinating this year. Before that, he always sat down and pushed in down. The problem I have with him is that he still has bowl movements in his pants. He gets very constipated because he doesn't try to go. He told me this morning that he can't go in the toilet and how about I get some tight underpants and a trashbag. I've asked him if he knows when he has poop in his pants and he says no, he can't tell. He lies if I ask him if he needs to change his pants. I tell him I know he does because I can smell it. He has super smelling cabablilities with everything else, I don't understand why he can't smell his dirty pants and realize that other people can smell it also. Another thing, he refuses to blow his nose. He will sniff it in instead of blow it out then complain about stuff in his throut. I try to tell him if he would blow the stuff out of his nose it wouldn't go down his throut but he doesn't beleive me. I have tried time and time again to teach my ds how to blow his nose and he does not get it. I also tell him it is not polite to pick it and he says well it is stuffed up what else am i suppose to do, i reponsed blow it and he tries and cant so he says that it is easier and faster to just pick it. I know this sounds gross, but he couldn't do it, he would only suck it in. He was always stuffy. His father is the same way - he has never blown his nose. I would not be surprised if my FIL has AS, but he now has Alzheimer's so there's no chance of dxing it at this point. I don't think my hubby is an aspie - he " only " has ADD. My kids blew their noses early (DS at 2, and DD at 17 months after we lost her suctioning thingee while on vacation). Everyone has always been astounded at the fact that they could blow their noses, and even more so that they wanted to. :-) My father taught me to honk, so when I wanted to show them how to blow hard, I'd do that. Guest guest Posted June 23, 2006 Report Share Posted June 23, 2006 Miralax is WONDERFUL! It is the only thing that keeps my children regular. I have no doubt that it will help him, too. Just make sure that if his BM's become too loose, that you reduce the dose, don't just stop it. It may take a little time to get the right dose. My son takes 3 tsp a day and DD takes 2 tsp. There are 2 other possible things you can do to help when he gets backed up. If he is at least 6, you could try 1 tbsp of mineral oil laxative a day to help lubricate it from within. That helped my son. For occasional problems, we use Fleet Liquid Glycerin Suppositories, which are so much more gentle than the solid ones, and work almost immediately. I'm glad to hear that your ENT put together the relationship between dairy and his ear infections. My son has a " rare " disorder (Eosinophilic Esophagitis) which causes him to react to most foods. I put rare in quotes because they're now finding it's more common than initially thought, although my son's case is more severe than many. Per the new demographics, it may be more common than celiac and chron's combined. We are finding that one of his symptoms of a failed food trial is ear infections. He got them when he failed apples, carrots, and grapes, but he also had the normal GI reactions. When he trialed soy, he didn't present with the normal GI reactions, but his first symptom was an ear infection. He was just sick more often as well (what seemed like colds, and mystery fevers). If we didn't scope/biopsy him, we wouldn't have known for sure that he was failing it. His " normal " reactions are nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain, so the ear infections were unexpected. Since rice is binding, maybe the rice milk is one of the reasons for the backup. Obviously, you don't want to stop giving him that, though. I don't know what to think, while I was reading about AS, I had considered that there may be a link, but I don't know that I really want to think about it. I have a lot to think about with him as it is, and if I start to worry about that happening to him when he's elderly, I'll drive myself a little more nuts than I probably already am. :-) If it is, it is, and there is nothing that can be done at this point. I've been trying to teach him as we moved to a place with a beautiful garden full of lilacs and roses and lavender etc! He just breathes out and says, yeah, okay, Mom, smells great.
