---One of my sons is on xanax xr (extended release) 1 mg. He used to

bite holes in his shirts and fidget and just generally be scared to

death of alot. He would duck his head if the teacher called on him

or *run* with his arms by his side to go to the front of the class.

Now he doesn't do any of that. It has helped him enough that his

teachers commented on his anxiety level seeming to go down...

P.S. he is on straterra and lexapro too.

Hi,

I have a 13 year old with great anxiety issues. He was on zoloft but it made

him very angry. The Dr. put him on Lexapro and he has been a different child.

His mood has improved 100 percent as has his anxiety issues. He is not as

nervous as he was. I dont know part of it is because its summer and school is a

big anxiety thing with him. Hope this helped some.

I am looking for some input as far as what medications have worked

for anxiety. I thought my 6 year old ds was doing better socially,

because he got used to his kindergarten class, but I was wrong.

This summer I have become painfully aware that he has alot of

anxiety in general and especially social anxiety. He will not

interact with other child except his brother who is 11. He does not

want to leave the house. He has not been on meds. for about a

year. Here are the ones he has been on in the past with the side

effects. I will obviously be discussing this with his psychiatrist,

but I feel like parents who have real experience with children on

medication have alot of knowledge that is valuable.

Celexa-good but he became hyper after being on it for over a year.

Risperdal-constipation

Geodon-no side effect, but didn't help

Zyprexa-no effect

Lexapro-agitation

The psychiatrist is talking about putting him on Strattera and using

it off label for anxiety and depression, not ADD.

I think SSRI's are the only approved anti-anxiety medication

approved for children, but he has not done very well on SSRI's.

Does anyone have a child on a medication for anxiety that is not an

SSRI? Or has anyone tried the natural remedys like Mind Soothe Jr.

or Kiddie Calmer?

I would appreciate any information regarding success/failure with

anti-anxiety meds. or natural remedys.

Thanks,

Nora

I have only started this but have heard great things about it. It can be alone

at first to try or in addition to your meds. Our Psychiatrist says that she has

a vitamin regimen that works wonders for kids with AS, ADHD, and mood disorders.

Here it is if anyone is interested. The way I thought about it is even if it

doesn't work, vitamins never hurt anyone.lol

Vitamin c, vitamin e, a multi vitamin as well as flax seed oil with omega 3

fatty acid. They take all of these daily. The vitamins are not too bad because

they all come in delicious chewable form. The flax seed comes in seed and oil.

My son has texture issues so I did not even try the seeds. The oil can be put

into cooking, juice, actually almost anything and does not have much taste to

it. I found an oil with the omega 3 in it. That helped eliminate another thing

to take. Hope this helps anyone who may interested. Also it is supposed to be

great for bi-polar and weirdly enough asthmatics(it has some kind of

anti-inflammatory effect to it)

Good luck

I'm interested in this vitamin regimen.

What are the brands that you have tried, and the amounts. How old

is your son. Mine is 8. It is hard to

find vitamins that are delicious chewable, and all, plus

free from dyes, yeast, etc. Also, the flax seed

with omega sounds great. I tried Nordic's Omega III

lemon oil, but it still has a " fishy " smell and after taste.

My son will not take that!

Are you using meds too for the anxiety?

Hello

My DS is on Statera and is being weaned off. One of the side effects of the

meds is Suicidal thoughts. Well Hunter had thoughts that he was going to Kill my

baby. Not intentionally but he started talking about what Dh and I would do when

Rivka dies. Would we leave him. So please be careful if you do try this med. It

is not a common side effect, but one that I feel should be mentioned.

Clonidine will be what they will put my son on for his Tics do not disappear

with coming of the Ritalin..... but the psyc. doc said he wants to do an EEG

first before he places him on it - I need to look up more about it just got

scared when he mentioned and EEG because I knew that it meant it had

something to do with the heart LOL.

Hi, The flax seed oil is herbal effect brand, the vitamin e is Wal-Mart's equate

brand and the vitamin c is the Sunkist brand. I use regular " Arthur "

multi-vitamins or Flintstones. I bought everything from wal-mart and was

surprised to find that even vitamin e comes in chewable(vanilla flavour) The oil

has directions of things you can mix it into. What I do with my son is only give

him a small glass of juice or whatever liquid with the oil mixed in and him and

I race to see who finishes first. That way he doesn't have time to notice what

he drinks and then I tell him to quickly chew a vitamin that tastes good. lol My

son is five years old. I am also trying my three year old who I am sure is adhd

on this as well. I have not had her diagnosed but giving her coffee of coca cola

mellows her out and she is very agreeable. Otherwise she is way out of control.

The paediatrician told me that if a person is truly adhd then caffeine will have

the same effect as Ritalin or anything else used to help. It is amazing! TGF

caffeine! lolHope this helps if you have anymore questions please ask me:)

I noticed too that caffiene also mellows my son out(with the adhd) he is not

one to drink a lot of it but he loves that new drink called Vault, so I have

been letting his drink it, thanks for the help. I am going to give it a try!

Leanne,

Thanks for telling me about your son and Strattera. My son had undesirable

reaction that was not a common side effect to Lexapro. Not something I want to

live through again.
