Guest guest
My older son had many obsessions when younger. Some of them were animals of the Galapogos (Blue Footed Booby) and also the area of Komodo and the Komodo Dragon. He was also obsessed for a while with the ways U.S. Presidents had died. He was also a list writer. He doesn't write lists that much anymore, but he writes lots of music and songs. Pam
Guest guest
My son is 12 and his obsession is matchbox cars. I think we have more of them than Wal Mart. He always checks the display of any store we go into looking for new ones. I think we have over 400 of them. He has been collecting them since age 3. He also knows which ones he has and which ones he doesnt. I have suggested making a list of the ones that he has but he says he doesnt need it he knows which ones he has. I said i needed the list so i dont buy extras and he said just ask me i will tell you. lol. This coming from a kid that cant remember where his shoes are. And power rangers, omg, don't even get me started. He can go on for hours on the subject of power rangers. Tammy <vitzie@...> wrote: I was just wondering.. Do any of your kids have unusual things they are obsessed with? I read that it is common with AS. My son's thing is Warner Brothers and other movie logos. Not the characters, just the logo itself, 20th century fox, Columbia Tristar, etc.. But mostly WB. He will be 6 in 3 days and we actually got him a Warner Bros. Cake. He just draws these logos over and over and writes movie words. He absoultely LOVES movie theaters and dvds. He won't watch the movie, just the end credits and reads the back of the box. (He is hyperlexic) I could name any movie and he can tell you what it's rated. Also he will go online and save the pictures of the logos and movie ads, then create a slideshow and look at them. He has had this " obsession " since age 2, in fact the first word he wrote at age 2 1/2 was " Columia Tristar Home Entertainment " He is just amazing on the computer and I have learned things from him that I didn't know! Most kids in a store wants toys.. not him he wants to read the dvd's then pick 1 to buy I don't tell many people about this because they will probably think it's strange and unless you understand AS which I found most people don't.. they just don't get it. I would just like to hear about some other " wierd obsessions " so that I know we are not alone Thanks Tammy --------------------------------- Sneak preview the all-new .com. Guest guest
My son's obsession has been the Tank Engine since he was about 2. He is going to be 8 in October and still plays with his trains. He collects them and loves to play with them over and over again. He has some toys from CHRISTMAS that he still hasn't opened because he loves his trains. He used to be into matchbox cars as well. He would line them up in a straight line when he was 3. That was fun for him. Now his new obsession is drawing. He wants anythign that will help him draw. :-) --- Wilke <msfixit3269@...> wrote: > My son is 12 and his obsession is matchbox cars. I > think we have more of them than Wal Mart. Guest guest
Jake's obsessions change...it used to be muscle cars, at age 5 he was reading HotRod magazine. For awhile it was Yughio cards, until he got a deck that was counterfit, now they all suck. He is on his 2nd round with Pokemon now. For a long time he was obsessed with gems....he did'nt understand why he couldn't have a diamond or emerald for Christmas, thank God he got over that one! For awhile it was dinosaurs. Then there's dragon's, a new obsession that started about a month ago, I can handle that one. At least with his obsessions changing, he is researching and learning alot about different things. It's all he does, talks about or thinks about. If we make him play with other children he wants to act out scenes from Star Wars Legos. which is not neccesarily all that unusual but it is unusual in its all consumingness. There was a period of time where he had this thing for the Bare Naked Ladies and he made me play their CD's like 500 times everyday and he wanted to know their names and what instruments they're playing and everyting else about them. But at the time he was 2, so that was a little werid. He also had a period when he was very small where he was really into books. Not reading them just...them. He wanted to touch them and smell them and just look at them for hours at a time. When he was seven months old and we started to think " Hey maybe somehting is not right here. " he would sit in the living room for literally hours and just turn the pages of books. Amber
Guest guest
My 5 yo went through the the Train thing, too. He still plays with them but is not obsessed like he used to be. He would bring his trains into the kitchen (instead of playing on his train table with the tracks) and line them all up on the lines on the linoleum. If anyone accidentally kicked one or moved it, look out!! Now he is really obsessed with Power Rangers. He can name all the Rangers from all the series whether he's seen them or not. It can be a problem at times, because when he gets into an uncomfortable situation or when he can't handle his emotions (anger in particular) he becomes a PR and starts making threatening gestures, etc. Not fun. His other pseudo-obsession right now is scuba divers. He looks through every Finding Nemo book he comes across looking for a picture of the diver that captured Nemo. He also has a short video on the computer about coral reefs that he watches for the divers, and he likes to look at pictures of any divers he can get his hands on. He had some birthday money to spend and bought a mask and snorkel (which he uses in the bathtub or when we go in the neighbor's pool) and has asked why he can't have a wetsuit, flippers and a tank, too! If you give him magnets he is busy for hours trying to move them around and magnet to things. And you can not go anywhere without him seeing and HAVING to push buttons. I.e elevators atm ect. He is also really into things that " transform " I don't quite understand this one. He loves transformers but it doesn't end there he thinks up transforming objects in his head and then wants me to buy it for him. Which is impossible because it doesn't exist anywhere except his imagination. lol could turn out to be a good thing maybe he will be an inventor:) ( ) wierd and unusual " obsessions " I was just wondering.. Guest guest
My DS does that with alphabet letters...he has lots of different sets and kinds of them and he will take all of one set and line them up in a really long line...he really blew my mind one day when he was lining them up on a table and the made a nearly perfect right angle with his line (I even took a picture of that one) He really loved it when I got him the Pop Onz (Fisher Price) Alphabet blocks b/c they all connected! He actually got very upset with his Grammy one day b/c she confused the " O " with a zero...he very promptly corrected her (LMAO) and moved on Ann <maryann1@...> wrote: My 5 yo went through the the Train thing, too. Guest guest
Parts of things... always bits and pieces. For example, this afternoon, I needed to retrieve something from 10 year old son's backpack. What I found was this: Pokemon cards (this phase comes and goes), Hot Wheels cars, assorted rocks and chips of stone, pages from a newspaper (son declared that these were of significance having a hundred dollar coupon inside - turns out it was for money off furnace installation), a key from the swimming pool locker, and a baby shoe (yup, asked about that one and he says it has been on his teacher's desk so he asked her today if he could keep it), and finally, a tire off of some toy vehicle. I have no clue why these - and the like - items are of importance to my son. ly, I see junk and when asked he doesn't seem to be able to answer; he appears to " know " that most the stuff is worthless, but to him it serves some sort of purpose that goes beyond my comprehension. > > I was just wondering.. Guest guest
Oh, we could have a count-off - lol - there are SO MANY vehicles in my home I wouldn't even know where to begin to measure. We have 4 sons and all have collected the cars from time to time, but son #3 is just like yours: can tell you what the vehicle is, the make, whether a sibling has one and if so, if it is in a different colour, etc. etc. As a baby, his little hand would grasp one and he would carry it with him into the crib to sleep in place of a stuffie. In fact, the only way he ever began to show any interest in stuffed animals was after I found a stuffed police car that lit up and whaled its siren. This boy is a car fanatic! I was just wondering.. Guest guest
andrew spent hours lining up his matchbox cars. i remember him being 2 years old and lining up cars (all pointing the same way of course) for 2-3 hours. i couldn't get over his attention span. i remember thinking, well whatever this is, at least we know he's not adhd....lol! bernadette On 6/27/06, <melly217@...> wrote: > > My son's obsession has been the Tank Engine > since he was about 2. Guest guest
LOL Bernadette, if you find out please let me know, Hunter loves Power Rangers, and had a lot of action figures. More then any child could ever need. Guest guest
My son is also a hot wheels fanatic. He has several hundred. He likes to line them all up and if they get bumped he gets really frustrated and angry. He also has an obsession with maps. By the time he was 5 he knew most of his states. He is now 6 and knows a lot of the capitals and some countries. He loves the globe. I've bought him serveral atlas' and maps and even card games that have to do with identifying states. Funny that most of you mentioned the power rangers. Just in the last few days my son has been paying more attention to the show.
Guest guest
Our son is obsessed with the computer. At the age of three he couldn't speak a word but he could navigate his way around a PC no problem. I still laugh at vidoe footage we have of him babbling away in jibberish whilst laoding up a game that he wanted to play. We put a PC in his room last year and he is amazing on it now. I hope that it might one day lead to some kind of employment that he enjoys. Beck ( ) Re: wierd and unusual " obsessions " > > I was just wondering.. Amber
Guest guest
My son is also into the computer. He has been since about age 2, he is now five. It is funny because I have to ask him for help when I am doing things on the computer now. He is also really into his gameboy. He is so good at it to! I hope that you are right and these kinds of " obsessions " do turn into great careers. ( ) Re: wierd and unusual " obsessions " > > I was just wondering.. Guest guest
Tammy, my son has the same movie info obsession. He is 10 now and it has only become stronger. he knows every movie production company statistic, box office info, actors, etc. He doesn't just like to watch them but prefers the research on them and knows every bit of info possible. He has used this obsession to write his own scripts and has started to make his own " movies " on video. I think these obsessions can be channelled into something very positive and productive in their lives. Just wanted you to know that you are not alone in this and I totally understand. We try to relish his uniqueness (and pray for patience with all the obsessive stuff!). thanks for posting. carol I was just > > wondering.. Guest guest
the thing with our AD is her obsession with electric outlets, they talk to here and she talks to them EVERYWHERE! you should see the looks we get in church when she offers the communion wine to the outlet. The funniest thing was when she was speaking Spanish(self taught)in a Mexican restaurant and the waitress (speaking very poor English) was trying to warn her not to put her drink in the outlet. she was no no no no,eeeze no to be good por to do that, no no no dunt pweeze! then Annie turned to her and had a 15 minute talk with her in Spanish about how she was just playing and did not mean to scare her......when i went to pay the check was asked where she learned...we told them she taught herself and they were amazed said she had the best dialect that they ever heard on a white girl and we are in Tennessee......She was so happy jumping all around and embarrassed her mother and grandmother I just laughed it off (my skin is a bit thicker) Just thought I would share this funny story --------------------------------- Messenger with Voice.
