My mom is coming for a visit tomorrow. So for the first day of

summer vacation, I have the kids cleaning up after a year of neglect.

And they're not complaining. :-)

What a great idea! I too get sick of being sucked into the whole cycle of all

of the negative things/behavior and what he needs as opposed to the fun stuff

about my son! Everyone gets a free pass from eyerolling at the proud mommies

and daddies singing their kids praises today! Hahaha...Personally I think my son

is pretty brilliant...he's only 2 (well nearly 3) and knows his ABCs forward and

backward and has started spelling and reading and also knows his numbers. He is

a very sweet affectionate boy who loves to give hugs and kisses (I'm really

lucky about that!). So that's my brag about my baby boy! Can't wait to hear

everyone elses! Have a great day

in the class to understand something! Don't you? Then I think to

it'd be a nice change of pace here on this list, for us all to mention

what our kids are good at, or what positive things there are about

was confirmed yesterday....That's enough to be proud of....at his

questioning, he answered twice as many questions as the rest of the class (not

my imagination, I was keeping a tally) and with a depth of insight that 3 of our

elders complimented him on afterwards.

Anyway, at his party afterward, he stood up as we were sitting down to lunch,

and offered a toast, thanking us all for supporting him, and for caring enough

to join him, and for " being among the multitude of blessings that God has poured

out on me! " --his dad & I were STUNNED! No one suggested that he offer a toast,

much less helped him with the words.

I have much to thank God for.

What perfect timing! I have just come from an awards

assembly for my son. He has already received an award

for outstanding achievement in pre-algebra once this

year, but he received one again today! He also

recieved an award for being " Student of the Month " in

May!!!!!!! This is for the " team " he is on at school.

(Team being a set of teachers for a certain amount of

students. I think there are 4 " teams " per grade at

this school.)

I know on his IEP, there was a statement that said

that his math teacher said that he was even helping

the students with their work! He has been recommended

to take Algebra I in one year instead of the usual

time of taking it over a 2-year period. However, when

it comes to helping his sister in math (she's in

accelerated math in 5th-grade and will be in

accelerated math again next year!)

continues to amaze me with his ability to

" beat " video games and his knowledge about using the

computer as well. Although he has NO desire to wash

dishes or do anything of that sort. He does like to

cook. Once he had home ec. (they don't call it that

now) in middle school, he loves to help make things

and it's nice because I can actually have him turn the

oven on and put things in for me when I'm not here and

take them out as well!

He will take a 1/2 year of Choices, which is a course

designed to help them make decisions once they live on

their own. It's a branch of the home ec dept. in

school he's in now.

The other half is devoted to keyboarding again

(advanced)-which he absolutely LOVES!

He also loves babies. He is really good with little

kids. It's just his 11 and 5 year old sisters he can't

stand! LOL! (Although he and Casey are 2.5 years

apart and they can be the best of buds when they are

left to themselves with no other kids around their

age.)

I can't begin to tell you how happy I was to see my

son be called up onto that stage twice this morning! I

wish ALL schools could be as successful and caring as

the teachers on his " team " have been this year! They

are truly a blessing, and it only took 8 school years

to get it! AAAH!

This was many years ago, when was about 4 or 5. Beanie Babies were a huge

thing, & our local newspaper was running a contest for children to win a

complete set of Mc's teenie beanies. The kids had to write a story about a

beanie baby. Well, wrote about EVERY beanie he owned...a separate story

for each one. They were very creative, and had some really interesting morals,

to boot.

The most poingant was about Seamore the baby seal. Seamore (a girl seal) got

very sick, and despite doing everything the doctors told her, she died. But it

weas a very happy ending, because then Seamore got to be in heaven with Jesus &

all of her friends, and she wasn't sick & didn't hurt anymore.

None of his stories were selected, but we treasured them all the same.

Well, prophetically, 's Godmother found out she had multiple myloma

lukemia later that year. took his seamore & his story to her in the

hospital...and a few months later, she passed away.

At the funeral, surrounded by greiving adults, my baby spoke out

loudly... " Why's everybody crying? Seamore will show her the way! "

Out of the mouths of babes....he still misses his Aunt Gigi, but there's no

greif...he knows she's healthy & whole & happy living with our Savior.

I agree wholeheartedly. Especially, for those of us

with younger kids around 3-5, it provides a glimmer of

hope... which is in such short supply around here that

sometimes I wonder how we go on with our daily lives.

Something that I have always wondered is that maybe

things are not as bad as they might seem at times.

Perhaps, you are the parent of an HFA/Aspie child and

you only come here when you have issues. This site

provides a venting platform as well as an advice

board.

However, when your child is doing better, you move on

with your life. You try to forget about the past and

conciously avoid anything that brings back memories of

those dark days.

Several researchers have noticed that there could very

well be an underground of autistics who are doing

fairly well, but the parents do not want to share

their stories because they do not want people to know

and, moreover, because they themselves have put a

mental barrier around their minds about the past. Its

just too painful to even reminisce (sp?)

Consequently, the literature focuses solely on those

who tend not to do better in their lives. It paints a

picture that might be much more bleak than reality

because their data could be skewed due to

non-availability of successful autistic experiences.

However, I think it is our obligation to also share

the success stories of our children. Why? Because it

provides hope. And hope is the best medicine man can

ever ask for.

My son is the same way. He always asks me how he will know me in heaven.

My son is the most loving little boy. He might give me

a hard time but when he loves you he lets everyone

know it. He calls me his " true love " . He says things

that " normal " 7 year olds won't say. He says that I am

his world and that he is proud to have me as his mommy

and I AM PROUD OF HIM AS WELL. :-)

Well, I have a lot of things to brag about my daughter, but what

especially stands out is when she tries to comfort me. One day I went

to a store to buy a dress. I never, ever, wear dresses, so I obviously

felt very uncomfortable. I asked my daughter: " What do you think, is

it OK " ? And she said, robotically : " Pretty " But actually, I wasn't. So

I started to take the dress off muttering: " Horrible, horrible " , and

she asked: " What? Why? " I explained that I thought I was horrible in

that dress, and she said, very thoughtfully: " I think you were very

pretty, Mommy. "

I almost cried...

And one day I asked if she thought I was fat, and she said: " Hmmmmm

(thinking), no, Mommy, just little, OK, just little fat " LOL!What a

nice way to put it!!! And then, just to make me feel better, although

I was laughing so hard I couldn't breath, she said she was also a

little fat (which is untrue, she is thin as a rail).

My son is very sweet and caring when it comes to making sure people are not

being left out or missed out. He a has a good sense of just ice for all.

He also had two fillings at the dentist last week and he sat so still with his

mouth open while they drilled and scraped. I could see that he was frightened

but we had practiced being at the dentist and he did just as we practiced. I

was so proud of my brave boy.
