I've had my son on NF for well over a year and it has done great things for him. Other on the list have been on it longer. This comes up periodically...is there any way to get that article removed? I'm guessing Pangborn is not interested in making a retraction. Sheesh. Nell
Guest guest
Doesn't Kirkman sell a phenol-assist enzyme? Funny, no mention that it is bad! IMO, there's just too many people around that don't want these kids to get better, no profit in it. Guest guest
Actually, my DAN! doctor mentioned this a while back. She said she doesn't want us to just give the No Fenol willy-nilly with every meal. It's not good to get rid of ALL fenols. Instead we give it with foods that cause a reaction, like the rare times we allow candy that has coloring in it. > In a message dated 5/20/2004 11:22:50 AM Eastern Standard Time, > gokeegans@h... writes: > > > Can anyone shed any light about this article? > > http://www.autismtoday.com/articles/nophenoldangerous.html > > > > > > It's a shame, but that article was written by someone with a competing > financial interest and it's absolutely not true. The current hypothesis about how No-fenol works is that it allows the phenols to be digested properly. Please ask your doctor to read the description of the product at the Houston website. http://216.114.78.114/webcenter/sites/HNI/Section.asp?SID=3536 Dr. Houston has addressed the misinformation by Dr. Pangborn, who was working for a competing enzyme manufacturer at that time. http://216.114.78.114/webcenter/sites/HNI/Section.asp? SID=3543 & N=Response%20to%20Pangborn No-fenol improved my son's digestion of highly phenolic fruits and vegetables.

My understanding with any of the enzymes is that the break down some--it would be hard to take enough to break down all of anything. Isn't it doing what the body is not able to yet because of compromised digestion and perhaps foods that are not rich in enzymes? My daughter takes no fenol with every meal and it has been with the additon of it that we've seen the real improvements.

It correctly digests them, so they can work properly in the body. Instead we give it > with foods that cause a reaction, like the rare times we allow candy > that has coloring in it. Giving it with foods that cause a reaction is okay. Maybe your child correctly digests certain phenols and not others. Dana
