Guest guest
What does the amino acid glycine provide? It is in most of the Brainchild products and other products. Is it contraindicated in some kids that have already too much glutamine & aspartine in their systems? I thought I read somewhere that it has some kind of effect with these two amino acids in making glutamate & aspartame which for some kids can contribute to overproduction of these excititory transmitters in the brain. Does anyone know about this relationship or heard of it? I don't know where I read that about glycine but thought I would ask here.
Guest guest
As you can see on the following chart, glycine is one of the three main building blocks used by the body to make glutathione. That's why we use it. I'm not enough of an expert to answer your question about contraindications. http://www.brainchildnutritionals.com/BCNDOCS/glutathione%20chart.JPG Terri at Brainchild At 04:25 PM 5/30/2005, you wrote: >What does the amino acid glycine provide? Guest guest
This will certainly not be the whole story, but (among other things, I am sure) glycine helps with bile production. Arginine (an amino acid) is known to help manage bacterial issues, but also encourages the reproduction of herpes viruses. Lysine balances arginine, so if you have any reason to expect that herpes is at play in any fashion, make sure you have lysine in place if you put arginine in. This is a very elementary explanation of these things. Hopefully others will flush it all out for you. Glad to hear your son is doing well! Anne > > I am feeling kind of confused on this one. Guest guest
It's one of the precursors of bile (with taurine). It's also one of the precursors of glutathione (with glutamine). I'm sure the body has many other uses for it. Generally, wikipedia is a good starting point for things like this. Guest guest
>>Can anyone give me some good info or > where to find good info on glycine and maybe arginine? Thanks Not sure about glycine. Right now I am researching arginine. I gave my son [actually 3 of my kids] high doses of lysine for several months, to eliminate herpes virus. Arginine and lysine are " opposites " , sort of like zinc/copper. Anyway, at the end of the lysine protocol, the herpes was gone [thankfully], but for #2 and #3, there were some OCD issues remaining. I considered that perhaps I had given lysine for too long, and depleted too much arginine, so I started supplementing that. It caused yeast again, plus #3 developed a low grade fever. And, nicely enough, the OCD issues are leaving. Still working on my theory for this one. Dana
Guest guest
>>Please let me know what you come up with for > the arginine. Yesterday, the arginine wore off before I gave the next dose. Arginine is DEFINITELY required here! Dana

I have not noticed anything, but my kids are potty trained and I finally got #2 to close the door for some privacy when using the toilet! But I don't notice anything after he uses the bathroom. Guest guest
Yes, recently started giving about 125mg per day to my 6 yr old son. I am trying to cut down a bit on Supps, but keep finding a reason to add more, hence the monster bit. We do every now and again cut right back and then add 1 at a time to see what is and what is not tolerated anymore, or alternatively taking one away at a time.
