Guest guest
-My daughter's hair test shows magnesium in the 90th percentile. Could this mean she's execreting all her magnesium and not utilizing it? Or that she retains too much and that if I try some mag for her constipation problems she might really go over the edge? -- In , " jornmatt " <kjorn@t...> wrote: > >>> Thanks all for replies to my constipation question, I have been > > giving nofenol as someone suggested with promising results, > although I have no idea why? > > No-Fenol helps break down fibrous foods, including in fruits. Guest guest
Hmmmm....that is interesting. Well, here are some thoughts... How does this compare to calcium or zinc? These minerals compete with mag (there might be others too) so are they also high? or low or normal? Is the hair test the only test for magnesium? Magnesium is not usually retained in the body whereas calcium is. So it is easy for magnesium to be lost or deficient. If you are giving a calcium supplment or lots of calcium but not magnesium, the calcium might be out-competing the mag and kicking it out. I try to give at least a 1:1 cal to mag ratio. Since my kids eat dairy I don't give calcium supplements but do give magnesium. Also, I found that brand makes a big difference. I wrote before about our success with Source Naturals mag malate. But when we went to NOW brand it is a bust (meaning instant constipation). Going back to the Source Naturals fixed the problem right away again. So if one brand isn't working, try at least one more reputable one. I haven't heard of someone going over the edge with extra magnesium. It would just cause loose stools. That is the sign when you have reached your personal upper limit. I would just try it for the constipation and see if it helps. .

Guest guest
You asked about my daughter's calcium and zinc levels. They are both in the 85%ile too. I'm not giving a calcium sup. She's only had the DDI hair test. Also, my notes indicate that Andy Cutler has said that magnesium raises serotonin levels. And that it also creates cysteine in the body. Does any of this make any sense to you? I appreciate your comments. > Hmmmm....that is interesting. Well, here are some thoughts... > > How does this compare to calcium or zinc?
