I'm not recommending anyone go against doctor's orders, but you might want to read the latest about zoloft and some other SSRI's used for children http://www.fda.gov/bbs/topics/ANSWERS/2004/ANS01306.html. Even with these warnings, your doctor may feel the benefits outweigh the risks. Currently, Prozac is the only SSRI not deemed to have increased suicide risk in children. I've read many abstracts and studies for SSRI's in children and was surprised at how much of a placebo effect there is, something else to consider as I think the OCD Zoloft studies had a fairly large placebo effect. However, it's very possible that an SSRI may be the thing that helps your child and it may be that Zoloft is the one that helps your child most. I'm not suggesting you go against the doctor, just that you might want to read all the new info. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has proven to be effective for anxiety, including OCD. I have used a combination of CBT with play therapy for my son's anxiety. It takes great determination and consistency on the part of the parents. You can ask around for a psychologist to help you. You can read about strep-throat related OCD at www.enzymestory.com/PANDAS/. I also have some links for books for anxiety and OCD and CBT. Guest guest
Thanks . I've read some of those studies and that is why I've hesitated about starting the Zoloft. We tried Prozac and it caused too much agitation, although it seemed to help with the OCD. Zoloft is not supposed to cause as much of a problem. My daughter has a diagnosis of autism and OCD. There is so much OCD in our families. In fact my husband takes Luvox for his OCD and it really helps. It is interesting being the only non OCD person in a house with two OCD folks. Of course, my house is always neat and nothing is out of place. I once asked a doctor if there is a medication for someone who lives with two OCD people and he said, " Yes, it's called valium. " Sorry to wander off subject. Thanks for your comments. I'm just not sure what to do. It all gets confusing doesn't it? Guest guest
We gave enzymes not only with snacks and meals, but drinks as well in the beginning. Also in the beginning, or even just a year ago, any form of Vit. C would agitate my son. Our baths seemed way more productive when I cut Epsom salts down to a handful ( and I have small hands) and added the baking soda. few questions for or others > There are a few questions I'd love to get comments on. Guest guest
and I don't get along with posting links, I'll try again http://www.fda.gov/bbs/topics/ANSWERS/2004/ANS01306.html I added ocd message boards to the pandas page today; you can search their archives www.enzymestory.com/PANDAS.html Good luck, you are right about it all getting confusing. > Thanks . Guest guest
Hi , Go to www.ccid.org and read up on the treatment protocol for viruses. I think my son made the most progress after I started this protocol . Lauricidin also helped alot. The most mercury he dunped ever was after doing the protocol for a few months and then detoxing with dmsa/ala combo. He dumped 250 times the normal amount of the high end of the reference range of mercury at that time. R

Guest guest
, Did your son test with high levels of mercury or other heavy metals? When we tested our daughter nothing out of whack showed up. The only thing that has ever been noted on tests was a slight vitamin A deficiencies and viral activity. Thanks for your response. Guest guest
We didn't do a hair test. We did a urine test where my daughter took Chemet for a certain amount of time. Then we took urine sample. While low levels of several metals showed up, none were out of what they called the normal range.
