Guest guest
Welcome to the board. My son is also GFCF and uses enzymes with each meal and significant snack. We did diet alone and saw some nice improvements. However, it didn't address the issue of gut healing and within a short while, other foods were becoming a problem. I couldn't see how eliminating all these foods was that beneficial to him. We began enzymes and they have helped tremendously. I would strongly encourage you to read 's book, Enzymes and Autism. It will answer a lot of questions for you. Also, I would start with a very low amount and slowly work up to the desired amount. I would probably start with PEP since you are not 100% gluten free. Keep in mind that you will probably see regression that can be attributed to die-off of the peptides. Also, look for positives. They will be their as well. My son's negatives included hyperness, agression, stimming. His positives included language increases, sleep, eating slower. Also, if you have questions as you are going, always post them and people here are so helpful. As for all the supplements, I understand how you feel. We currently give my son many supplements as well. With the help of enzymes, I believe my sons gut will finally heal and we will be able to take away most supplements and he will be able to eat most anything. We are currently planning on testing the diet after the first of the year. We will have been on enzymes for almost 6 months then. I hope this helps! > > Hi, everyone! > > I'm new here and have some questions concerning the use of enzymes. > I have a 3 yo dd with ASD. She has been partially GFCF since May > 2004. Most kids can leave gfcf, altho some still need some sort of diet, either gfcf or a different set of restrictions. > At what rate should I begin to re-introduce these foods? Some people leave gfcf immediately, but generally it is best to wait for about 3 weeks, to be sure the enzymes are tolerated. > My doctor just sort of said here you go...follow this list of things > one at a time and let me know if you have concerns or questions. Start one thing at a time, at low dose, and watch for reactions. Dana
Guest guest
Enzymes have helped us more than anything we have done, and in 13 years we have done lots of things. I only wish I'd stuck with the ones from Houston earlier. We had no luck with TMG, DMG or Super Nu Thera. My daughter just couldn't tolerate them. Now with a little more than 3 months on enzymes, we are seeing good things. I'd say don't be afraid to try them. We tried the ones from Kirkman, but they didn't do much. We didn't have real results until we started with the ones from Houston. New here...I have questions Hi, everyone! I'm new here and have some questions concerning the use of enzymes. I have a 3 yo dd with ASD. She has been partially GFCF since May 2004. When I say partial, I mean 100% casein free and about 80% gluten free. We noticed a dramatic all around improvement with the diet. Our DAN! doc has recommeneded enzymes for her. I have ordered them and they are still sitting in the cabinet. I don't know what I am afraid of? I guess it would just be encouraging to hear from those of you who have had success with them. I don't have anyone in my local support group that uses them. I guess what I want to know is, once we introduce them to her, will be still have to be GFCF forever? Have any of you seen enough success, that you could go off the diet altogether? I would not mind staying relatively GFCF for the most part and let her have some " cheats " once in awhile. At what rate should I begin to re-introduce these foods? Should she be on the enzymes a certain amount of time before trying that? My doctor just sort of said here you go...follow this list of things one at a time and let me know if you have concerns or questions. By list, I mean the introduction of TMG, Super Nu hera, Fish Oils, etc. Is anyone else using these things as well and if so...any recommendations? She is on the vitamins... I am hesitant is starting the TMG...I just want to get to the enzymes part. This is all so confusing. I feel like I need to hire someone just to manage our supplements and vitamins! It's not that I am ignorant, I am just confused as to where to start. I feel like I am standing here, unable to move in any one direction, and I need someone to get behind me and give me a push start, lol! Thank you for taking time to read my post and I welcome your thoughts and ideas.
Guest guest
Hello I'm new here and have some questions concerning the use of enzymes. I have a 3 yo dd with ASD. She has been partially GFCF since May 2004. When I say partial, I mean 100% casein free and about 80% gluten free. We noticed a dramatic all around improvement with the diet. >>great news! Our DAN! doc has recommeneded enzymes for her. I have ordered them and they are still sitting in the cabinet. I don't know what I am afraid of? >>upsetiing the apple cart? I guess it would just be encouraging to hear from those of you who have had success with them. I don't have anyone in my local support group that uses them. >>me neither LOL We did the diet for 2 years and came off with HNI enzymes and saw more improvements than we did whilst on it We din;t see dramatic changes with diet but some significant stuff with CF I guess what I want to know is, once we introduce them to her, will be still have to be GFCF forever? >>Nope. Some have one or two problem foods that are best avoided, Trial and erro like most of this stuff Have any of you seen enough success, that you could go off the diet altogether? >>Yep, hated that diet to death, dumped it the day the enzymes arrived! I would not mind staying relatively GFCF for the most part and let her have some " cheats " once in awhile. >>thats reasonable although enzymes produce better effects in general if you use them all the time. I don;t know anybody on the CFGF diet that is only CFGF - thats just the beginning. Low suagr and avoiding colours and artificials is god for most and kid At what rate should I begin to re-introduce these foods? Should she be on the enzymes a certain amount of time before trying that? >>>Ideally I would 6 weeks, 3-4 weeks to get settled out and a couple for good luck. very important to introduce only one new food at a time so you can see the effects My doctor just sort of said here you go...follow this list of things one at a time and let me know if you have concerns or questions. >>helpful - NOT! By list, I mean the introduction of TMG, Super Nu hera, Fish Oils, etc. Is anyone else using these things as well and if so...any recommendations? She is on the vitamins... I am hesitant is starting the TMG...I just want to get to the enzymes part. >>>Clever girl. Enzymes first, other stuff later This is all so confusing. I feel like I need to hire someone just to manage our supplements and vitamins! It's not that I am ignorant, I am just confused as to where to start. >>>We were all once where you are now. Starting with enzymes makes the most sense. Improved digestion and uptake of nutrients help to heal and balance the body. I feel like I am standing here, unable to move in any one direction, and I need someone to get behind me and give me a push start, lol! >>>PUUUUUUUUUUUUUSH - did you feel it?? You could always try taking some yourself first Thank you for taking time to read my post and I welcome your thoughts and ideas. >>Your welcome - keep osting and worries or concerns, lots of old timers like me on the list to give you ideas. s site and book are great resources enzymestuff.com for both HTH Mandi in UK
Guest guest
thanks to all of you who posted to my questions and for your thoughtful suggestions. I ordered 's book before I even found you all...lol...still waiting for it to arrive. I expect it today. It sounds as if I am going to get some much needed support here from you. I am going to read the book and then come back here for any additional questions. Thanks for the big push!!! I needed it PS. So Kirkman's enzymes are not helpful? That's what I have...so expensive...luckily I order a small trial size bottle. SO, I will look into Houston by your recommendations. Thanks again all of you!
