Hi,

I just finished 's enzyme book. I am ready to get started and

want to order today. I already have Kirkman's EnZymeAid on hand, but

want to order Houston's today. My dd is 3 yrs old and weighs 34 lbs.

Questions:

1) Would it be ok to start her on Kirkman's until we get Houston's

in the mail?

2) What dosage should I start her on? She is 100%CF and 90% GF since

May 2004.

3) She was most reactive to the following foods before GFCF Diet:

bananas, cheerios, cheese crackers, bread or toast. So which enzymes

would fit her best?

Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated. Also...she is ALREADY

pretty hyper, will I see an increase in that? I can't imagine her

been any more revved up than she already is, lol! She doesn't stop

from the time her feet hit the floor in the AM until she passes out

in the PM. Sleep has always been an issue with her. She rarely

sleeps thru the night and hardly ever naps since she was about 20

mths old. Would trying the Epsom Salts relieve that by any chance?

Thanks again!

Depends on what you mean by " reactive " . For some issues, enzymes

won't help. But based on your list above, here is what worked for my son

Bananas: No-Fenol

The other foods: Peptizyde or AFP

Possibly, especially in the first three weeks of using enzymes, while

she adjusts to them.

Probably.

If she does have a phenol intolerance issue [which can cause hyper and

epsom salts can help], then use the AFP Peptizyde instead of regular

Peptizyde.

Ok, when I say reactive...I could give her a banana and within 15

minutes after eating it she was whining and tantruming, often

aggressive and basically all around ugly and very hard to get a

handle on. She would go straight for her favorite " stims " like

opening and closing drawer repeatedly and spinning in circles.

When she ate cheerios, same thing, bread or toast, same thing and

then ALWAYS wanted more, like she a bottomless pit for these items.

Before we found out about GFCF, she would eat 10-12 pieces of taost

a day somedays.

The ONLY time I see stimming now is IF she has had a dietary

infraction and I know immediately by the behavior.

She is a grazer...she eats little bits here and there all day long.

About phenols...I may be a bit unclear on exactly what they are. I

can give her apples and white grapes and do not see anything at all.

Just bananas make her go (pardon the pun) bananas! I never noticed

much reaction from corn either. She eats greens very well with no

effect as well...meaning green beans, peas and broccoli.

I was very diligent in keeping her food diary when we first learned

about going GFCF. Only the items that I listed above caused her to

spin into a frenzy. Nothing else seemed to bother her much...but I

have to laugh when I say that...because she never ate anything BUT

those items I have listed above!

Also, what is the difference between Peptizyde & AFP?

What dose should I start out at?

Thanks and Dana, I have gotten some great GFCF ideas from your

website, thanks a bunch!

Apples and grapes are high salicylate/phenol. Bananas are high amine.

It is possible your child simply does not tolerate bananas, or she

might not tolerate amines, or both. You can read more about amines

and salicylates here

These are lutein/carotene items. She might not have problems with

lutein/carotene [which was my son's worst problem].

Peptizyde contains papain. AFP does not.

> What dose should I start out at?

1/2 capsule seems to work for most kids.
