Guest guest
minerals in pigments has long history of toxicity queen elizabeth the first died from the white lead used in make up in those times. bismuth is chemically similar to mercury and is only less toxic because it is solid at room temp and very poorly absorbed but its something i would be very wary of. van gogh got poisoned by the pigments in his oil painting and probably died of lead, mercury and other heavy metal toxicity. presuambly bare minerals would have overt toxic issues sorted out like lead but if they have a product with bismuth in.......... vtiamin e, tocotrienols and efas will give very good skin without makeup i would encourage readers to use less or no make up as whats in them gets into the body and theres just no way they are going to be completely untoxic. make up is like a mask and is very off putting, you can't see the real person................... > I called several places in the company today and checked out some > other products too. Guest guest
Just got an update on ingredients. The Bare Minerals lipsticks MAY contain synthetic colors but other lip items don't (liners, lip pencils, glosses, etc). So check the lipsticks if it is a concern. The Monave, Jane Iredale, and Aromaleigh lipsticks don't contain synthetics. Didn't check others. All in all, the mineral lines are still much better than other commercial lines in regards to health. Burt's Bees has some all-natural cosmetics, but not from just minerals. .
Guest guest
Ahhhhhhhh....is this regard you are very fortunate, andrew! You don't have people expecting you to wear high heels or pantyhose either. I minimize those events as much as possible as well. The thing about cosmetics is similar to other things...you really have to check each item carefully and determine what is good enough overall. For example the aromaleigh may have no synthetics in lipsticks but they might in the lip-liners. Just as some supplement companies may say their product is casein-free, mercury-free, other ingredient-free or all natural, but in fact it is only within the allowed limits to claim that...not in the literal technical sense. Like a food can claim 0 calories per serving as long as it is 5 calories or less. On the other hand, you have to make judgement calls when it is no longer realistic to worry about molecules of this or that. We really can't micro-manage biology to the molecular level each second. 'Within a certain limit' might be good enough a good part of the time. Or reducing chemical load most of the time without freaking out over minor or occassional exposures. . Guest guest
, What are your opinions on parabens(Butyl,Methyl, ect)? It seems like reputable companies still use them as preservatives but others say they are bad.(Aubrey Organics calls them toxic) I recently purchased some Ecco Bella products and they contained parabens. It is so exhausting to research every ingredient in every product. Here is a link to a report from Australia: http://www.nicnas.gov.au/news/20040123-parabenbreastcancer.asp Thanks, Diane
