Guest guest
Hi!! My daughter is 7 and has been taking superNu thera for almost 2 years, in combination with flax seed oil (1000mg) . I want to start my daughter on DMG, but I am under the impression that it should be accompanied by folic acid to prevent hyperactivty. My concern is that the DMG (that Kirkmans offers) that has folic acid also has b-12.... will it be too much B-12 if she takes it while taking superNu thera or should i just get DMG and use the foloc acid chewables instead, so as to avoid too much b-12??? any info would be greatly appreciated!! happpy turkey day!!! antoinette nj
Guest guest
I have been reading the posts about the kids getting viruses and that is something I have been wondering about. Ever since my daughter Faryn started on Methatrexate 2 1/2 years ago she is constantly getting colds. Right now she has her 2nd cold since school started 5 weeks ago. Luckily the colds don't turn into anything more serious but she does complain of joint pain more frequently when she is sick. Every time I have mentioned this to her rhumy I am told that the medicine has nothing to do with it and to keep her on it. All I know is that she never used to get sick this often. So I will take this lull in activity, to introduce myself and why I joined this group. My name is and I have six children - 4 boys and 2 girls. My girls, unfortunately, have been hammered with health problems. My 14yo, Kristi, has a syndrome called Nail-Patella (NPS) and also kidney disease (FSGS). We watch her alot for arthritis because of the NPS - it affects joints/muscles, in addition to her kidneys. My other dau, 12yo Bethany, has recently been (tendatively) diagnosed with JRA, and her kidneys have also begun spilling protein. The boy's health is pretty good - mostly just scoliosis and a mild form of NPS for my llyo son. I'm trying to learn all I can about this. The rheum put her on Plaquinal but she has alot of headaches and poor appetite, so I dont know that she's tolerating it too well. She also has these " hot flash " times, where she just sweats terribly. Her face get flushed. I dont know if its the JRA or the meds or what. Because of the kidney involvement, she had to go off the Naproxen and her pain really increased. Tylenol Arthritis formula has really seemed to help. Anyway, nice to meet you all and I hope I can learn alot here. The kidney disease forum has really helped me, as well as the NPS site. I will be studying and learning forever, I think! Guest guest
Hi, My daughter started methotrexate in 2003, but it was a low dose of 17 mg by injection once a week with cyclosporin. Since then she has been on cellcept, chlorambucil, and now ivig. Through all of these meds she only stopped them when she had a fever. It was explained to me that her immune system was being suppressed enough to keep from flaring, but not enough to fight infections. The only time this did not hold true was when she had breathing issues that turned out to be pnemonia. She had pnemonia twice in a 3 month period. That is when we found out that her G gamma globulin (sp) levels were low. It wasn't the meds that were causing her not to fight infection, but her own immune system wasn't working the way it should of been. The meds did not help it. I hope this makes sense. As long as there is no fever, and as long as your child is breathing normally all should be o.k. I will say that I have no issues in emailing her Dr. at any given time, though! Thank goodness he responds quickly! ' Jackie Borella <candyfaryn@...> wrote: I have been reading the posts about the kids getting viruses and that is something I have been wondering about. Guest guest
Sorry I forgot to mention.......labs will show if your child isn't fighting infections well on his own, or if his lab work is off, liver and such...Every 4 - 6 weeks labs should be done. Guest guest
Jackie, is on both prednisone and Enbrel, which definately affect the immune system, so methotrexate is the least of our worries there. Is Faryn on any other medications that could suppress the immune system? Or is she only taking methotrexate? In the possible side effects of methotrexate are listed fever, chills, and sore throat as signs of possible bone marrow problems. Also listed are shortness of breath, coughing, or wheezing as signs of affected lungs. These might manifest as seemingly constant colds. Guest guest
coconut oil open forumIn my opinion the best remedy for eczema is flax seeds. My grand child had severe eczema on his legs. One year of treating allopathy was of no use. Then we turned to homeopathy. 4 years of treatment was of no use. The problem aggrevated. Then I suggested Flax Seeds. We crushed flax seeds in a blender and gave him one tablespoon in the morning and one table spoon in the evening. He just ate it without adding to anything like milk or yogurt. Within one week he became perfectly alright. After a month of starting , there is no trace on the skin. Flax seed is a food product and it needs no prescription. It is the plant from which Linen fibers are made. Flax seed oil is the base of wood paint. If you Google " Flax Seed benefits " you will be able to get a lot of information. P.J.
