Hello all, My son Athish either grinds his teeth or drools. we think its more when he tries hard to talk. We tried Artane for 6 months last year . It stopped his grinding and drooling to some extent. We don't give him anymore. I don't want him to be on this medication just to stop drooling or teeth grinding, since it has someside effects too. We also do lot of oral motor activities. Does anyone face this with your child. Have you tried any other alternatives. Can you please share your experiences. He is diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, Microcephaly, Apraxic and Developmental delay and he is 6 yrs old. Do you think Enzymes will work for him. If so which one of them?? Thanks, Meena Kalyanasundaram ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 2 Date: Thu, 11 Nov 2004 12:23:26 -0600 From: " Josie Lecraw " Subject: Clathration vs. Chelation????? Has anyone ever used this product called PCA -RX from Maxam Nutraceutics? It is supposed to be a " gentler " form of chelation. I stumbled upon their site and their testimonials but had never heard of it. http://ssl.maxamlabs.com/MAXAM_ASP_ViewProduct_LongDescription.asp?ProductIN DX=1002
Guest guest
Josie, How do you make sure that other things are in balance with the EFA's? I'm so confused! Another CLO question We introduced CLO (nordic naturals) to our son at 1 tsp. about 2 weeks ago. This was an increase in the amount of EFAs and this switch introduced vit. E and naturally occuring vit. A. We switched to this brand from a different omega source. At the time of introduction, our son was doing better than he ever has before! A day or so after we began the CLO, stimming increased, circles under the eyes appeared, he was sensitive to noises, and in general seemed to be dying something off. We deduced that it was probably viral die off due to the vit. A. We did see a bit of a flare in yeast, but by increasing our yeast protocol kept it under control. Yesterday, it seemed as if his yeasty stools were gone and his stools were much more formed than they have been for months! Our problem is that the stimming is now way up!!! I am getting ready to pull the CLO from his regimen, but don't want to if the stimming is due to the CLO clearing him of something. I just have seen a general down turn in his mood and stimming. What are your experiences with the intro of CLO, vit E, and/or vit A? Should we hang in there a while more or pull the supplement to see if it is an intolerance? His behavior analyst is coming in town to update programming this Thursday. I want my happy camper back, so this (expensive) meeting is not a wash. But, I also don't feel good about stopping a systemic flushing of any sort just so an ABA team meeting goes well!!! Thanks in advance! ~ --------------------------------- FareChase - Search multiple travel sites in one click.
Guest guest
Hey : Well….I don’t know exactly. All I know is that if you do it wrong you create trouble and that you need to make sure the antioxidants are in place. Extra vit E can help offset potential problems. Based on the results of Sophie’s EFA test last February (which came after about 6 months of one ProEFA daily and nothing else in the way of EFA), Dr. Cave wanted us to dramatically increase the amount of EFAs we were giving. If we had followed her recommendations I would now be giving Sophie ½ tsp of CLO and about 5 ProEFAs every single day. Though I have followed Dr. Cave on just about everything else she has recommended, I just couldn’t “go there” with that level of EFA. What I decided to do was to make sure all the antioxidants were in place as well as the things that help process fatty acids and then gradually add some more oils. For us that means: - Brainchild vits and mins every day - N-Acetyl-L Carnitine - Vit E - Co Q10 - Lipo Glut (1/4 tsp 2x per day) (She also gets HNI trio with every meal or snack, extra zinc, several different probiotics, custom amino acid blend, and at the moment Nystatin. I toy with reintroducing the Lypo enzyme but havent done it) When all that was in place I added another ProEFA for a grand total of 2 per day and ½ tsp of CLO. Very conservative. Also I play around with it. If we are running low on ProEFA, I sometimes do 1 full tsp of CLO instead. We will go back to Dr. Cave in January for more testing and I will be interested to see what impact all of this has had on Sophie’s overall levels. As much as most of these kids need more EFAs in general, it seems that so many of them have trouble processing them. If you have trouble processing…they add to oxidative stress. I sort of think they are one of those things that are too casually prescribed by the docs. When Dr. Cave recommended the increased levels, I asked several times about getting the right balance of DHA/EPA/GLA etc and how to achieve it based on our particular test results…and, though I love Dr. Cave, I didn’t get very much advice. Sorry I cant be more helpful on this. I’m better at sounding the “caution” bell on this one than I am at having practical advice! Take care, Josie Re: Josie Josie, How do you make sure that other things are in balance with the EFA's? I'm so confused!
