Has anyone tried Creon?

Has anyone tried a digestive enzyme called Creon? My daughter's DAN

doctor gave us some samples to try.

It contains (per capsule):

Lipase 20,000 USP units

Protease 75,000 USP units

Amylase 66,400 USP units

The capsules are delayed release. The littel pellets inside are

coated. However, my daughter is too young to swallow capsules, and

so we have to put the pellets in her food, which means she usually

ends up chewing some of them. Hence, I don't think she benefits much

from the delayed release.

I'm wondering if anyone has tried this product and has any thoughts

on how it compares with the Houston enzymes?

We've been trying the Creon for a several weeks now, and I haven't

seen major changes. Her poops are perhaps a little better formed on

the whole, although that could also be due to dietary changes we've

implemented. She still has frequent diarrhea, and her tummy is very

bloated after meals.

We've recently added No Fenol. At the same time, we drastically

reduced her phenol intake. We saw some behavorial improvements

around this time, but it's hard to say which has helped more, the No

Fenol, or the reduction of phenols, or the Diflucan she's taking.

I'm wondering if we should try the whole family of Houston enzymes,

either in addition to or instead of hte Creon. ????

Due to multiple food intolerances and major yeast and bacteria

problems, my daughter is on a very limited version of the Specifc

Carbohydrates Diet (which is also gluten and cassein free).

Currently, she east only meats, veggies, nut yogurt which I make for

her, and some soaked nuts and seeds. Fruit is temporarily out due

to yeast problems. She doesn't tolerate eggs at all. SCD permits

no grains. Doesn't leave much!

We would use enzymes as a supplement, not a replacement to dietary

intervention. I'm, hoping to help her digestion so she doesn't get

so bloated and backed up with poop, with the long term goal of

healing her gut so that she can eventually tolerate more foods.

I'm new to this group, although I've been a member of the other

autism groups (diet, mercury, abmd, etc) for some time.

THanks!

About 3 years ago my doctor put me on the Creon. Didn't know much

about the stuff. I since learned more and that the Creon dosage wasn't

high enough, another doctor told me to keep trying different brands

until I find one that worked. For me I don't need the hydrocloric acid

in most formulas. And finding a formula at a high dose is hard to find.

I did a search on the web and found Thropp's Nutrition-Ultra-zyme Plus

and it agreed with me and worked well. So I have been taking it for

over a year. I didn't know about Houstons enzymes until I came on

this board. I never tried those enzymes yet.

Liz,

THanks for your reply. What is the heral formula you used? Is there

a reason you tried Creon instead of other enzymes, such as Houston's?
