Guest guest
I immediately thought yeast too. My experience with SCD is that at first it was helpful, but over time n was able to tolerate fewer and fewer foods. And yeast/bacteria continued to be a problem, although I was using honey and some fruit. n did not have the diarrhea problem you're describing, just intractable yeast/bacteria and a shrinking list of tolerated foods. So I started chelating him and things improved a lot. Now he can tolerate all real foods (not artificials). Still fighting the yeast fight, but only on round 21... Guest guest
>>After the diet, his stools were formed, but we saw no improvements in speech or in the lining up toys. For my son, both of those issues were primarily related to viruses. >>started giggling all the time, Generally phenols and/or yeast. For my son, near the end of biomedical, viruses caused a little of this. >>We pulled more foods out of his diet -- basically everything that passed through undigested and caused a rash. Is this WITH enzymes? For my son, certain foods did cause problems even with enzymes. >>We then added supplements and a dairy-free probiotic and the coconut kefir recommended on the BED diet. He has made gradual gains since his crash, but once we added nystatin, he began refusing all supplements and most foods. Nystatin only targets certain strains of yeast. Did your child test as having one of those strains? Because otherwise, Nystatin can make a yeast problem worse, if he has other strains. If he realized when he needed probiotics, he might realize that this is causing him to have problems. >>He clamps down his jaw and if I can manage to get anything in, he spits it out. He will not even take yummy supplements like the rasberry flavored TMG. He does not trust us with food anymore. I never put supplements into ANY food that is meant as a meal or snack. I mix them into peanut butter/honey and spread it onto a cracker. My kids know they are required to eat the cracker mix, or they have the choice of me mixing them into applesauce, or if they taste really bad, I put them into an empty capsule and slide it down their throats. Some parents use a pill shooter or syringe. GSE for yeast can be put into lemonade or orange juice without affecting the flavor too much [at one drop]. Does he drink those things? >>He is eating very little, instead preferring to breastfeed. Try using the enzymes yourself, see if that helps. Be sure you are only eating those foods that your child can also eat. > My plan is to add the nofenol and put him back on the restrictive diet which consists of shelton hotdogs and sliced turkey, baked corn chips, eggs with pureed vegetables scrambled together and potatoes -- these are the only foods that do not show up undigested in his stools. Since he is taking in most of his nutrition through breastmilk, I am unsure if I should be eating nothing but the above foods, or if I can expand my own diet with the enzymes (which I am taking). You might want to start for a few days only eating those foods, and then expand your own diet and see what might happen. Dana

We used one or two tiny drops three times a day for 14 days and went off two weeks then started again. I think we did that for a couple of months. Now, I just give it to him now and then. Nystatin did not help us.
