Guest guest
we started no-fenol a few weeks ago with GSE - and are seeing some noticeable results with behavior and learning. however, my son(7) is having trouble with encopresis again, unfortunately while he's at school, not a lot, but enough to soil his underwear. he can go to the bathroom at night, but he's frustrated with not being able to control the soiling during the day. we take some natural colon pills - named Jim's Colon Pills and Jim's Colon Cleanse. They have helped him in the past to maintain decent bm. but now i don't know. someone mentioned culturelle - does anybody have any experience with that or have any other recommendations? daily i am giving him 2 no- fenol with 2 - 3 gse, 4 cod liver oil gel caps ---- this in morning and then again at night. Along with a " colon cleanse " in am and a " colon pill " at night. i also give him a general enzyme when he eats in am and at night. (not able to give it to him while he's at school.) the other thing is that i know in the past he has had a leaky gut. and i believe the enzymes should be helping this. what i liked to know is if there is an easy way that i myself can test this or know whether or not he still has one, besides behavior and such. it would be nice to be able to perform some simple tests myself because of $$$. thanks for your help. i just joined this group and am finding the info fascinating! Guest guest
>>>he can go to the bathroom at night, but he's frustrated with not being able to control the soiling during the day. My son would say he 'couldn't feel it'. Later, it was he 'couldn't feel it in time'. It took a good five months on the encopresis re- training schedule before he was able to feel bm movements appropriately. Are you doing a bathroom schedule with your son? It could be at school he is so pre-occupied with school activities he doesn't go on time, or can't go exactly when he needs to. >>>we take some natural colon pills - named Jim's Colon Pills and Jim's Colon Cleanse. They have helped him in the past to maintain decent bm. but now i don't know. My son still takes extra magnesium. He takes about 450-600 mg a day or else the constipation comes back. The magnesium keeps the stools 'soft' enough to move regularly. He is fine when he takes the mag. I give half in the morning and half at bedtime. >>>> someone mentioned culturelle - does anybody have any experience with that or have any other recommendations? My son did excellent on Culturelle - a probiotic particularly too for colon problems. Other probiotics were good, but the Culturelle seemed to help especially for the colon problems. It is interesting to note that my other son doesn't have colon problems and the Culturelle didn't seem to help him any more than other probiotics (like acidophilus) >>>> the other thing is that i know in the past he has had a leaky gut. and i believe the enzymes should be helping this. what i liked to know is if there is an easy way that i myself can test this or know whether or not he still has one, besides behavior and such. I asked a lab who offers intestinal permeability tests for leaky gut and their advice was to just go with how the person is behaving, eating, and so on - save the money for something else. The enzymes should help with leaky gut. .
Guest guest
You should probably back off the Nofenol dosing, it can loosen stools. Try going to 1/2 cap twice a day. The Nofenol formulation is quite potent, so a little can go a long way. Guest guest
we have him try to go to the bathroom after he gets home or after he eats at night. i read about encopresis on your website and thought maybe i should have him try after he eats in the morning before school. we've started that (it's tough cause he never wants to go try - but i just have him sit there for 5- 10 minutes) and he doesn't like to each much in am. do you recommend trying in the morning as well as night? and sticking to a schedule as much as we can? also as far as the magnesium - do you think that would be worth a shot instead of these colon pills? i worry about the long term affects of them - even though they are all natural. i appreciate your responses. thanks so much > > >>>he can go to the bathroom at night, but he's frustrated with not > being able to control the soiling during the day. > > My son would say he 'couldn't feel it'. Guest guest
one other question --- what kind of magnesium do you use - which ones seem to work the best. and don't you need a combination of calcium ang magnesium and now i'm hearing vitamin d? > > >>>he can go to the bathroom at night, but he's frustrated with not > being able to control the soiling during the day. > > My son would say he 'couldn't feel it'. Guest guest
You mention that the soiling the underwear came back with taking the No-Fenol. No-Fenol can soften the stools, so it's possible that he is having a little trouble controlling the stools. If my son gets a larger dose of No-Fenol, it softens the stool, so I have to cut down the dose a little. While some do best on a full dose, some require a smaller dose. > > > we started no-fenol a few weeks ago with GSE - and are seeing some > noticeable results with behavior and learning. however, my son(7) is > having trouble with encopresis again, unfortunately while he's at > school, not a lot, but enough to soil his underwear. he can go to > the bathroom at night, but he's frustrated with not being able to > control the soiling during the day. we take some natural colon > pills - named Jim's Colon Pills and Jim's Colon Cleanse. Guest guest
My daughter has had difficulty with this over the years, but we finally seem to have it licked. We used Culturelle for a very long time (couple of years) magnesium, and now she takes a little Benefiber a couple of times a day (by " little " I mean maybe 1/8-1/4 tsp) plus she eats more fiber, and drinks more water than she used to- and takes Brainchild Herbathione which seemed to benefit her at well. At first I was thankful just to have her going more often- before it would be up to 5 days in between bm's and then they were so huge for her. The bm's were still large for awhile and very hard. Now finally she goes ever day or 2 and the bm's are normal. They even flush lol. I can see how much having regular bm's have improved how she feels, sleeps, and her appetite is much better as well. I'm sure all the built up bacteria, etc was just so bad for her before. I hope the tips here will work for your son. > > > > >>>he can go to the bathroom at night, but he's frustrated with > not > > being able to control the soiling during the day. > > > > My son would say he 'couldn't feel it'. Guest guest
thank you, we started a probiotic - again and magnesium - i gave him a bunch this weekend - taking karen's recommendations - using natural calm and a capsule, and finally last night he went a bunch. i know he's been backed up for awhile, very agitated and lots of bumps all over his face (which i take to be that's he's toxic). i appreciate all the help. hopefully this will be what he needs! Guest guest
April, We have dealt with the same problem for 15 years. It wasn't until I read 's book and learned about encopresis that I realized what we were dealing with. Yes, it was a big problem at school and got to the point where I would not send him to school until he had a BM. Try to get him on a schedule so he can do his business at home. We have not used Oxypowder and I don't know much about it. The only thing that I found to work effectively is a strong, safe herbal formula which he takes with dinner. First thing in the A.M. he needs to eliminate. We have been doing this for about 4 months now and I believe he is just about cured of encopresis. > > Before starting Oxypowder or anything else I wanted to send out a question to all the great people/friends out there. > > Anyone have experience with encopresis? My son is now 8yrs old. He has been potty trained to urinate but the BMs just haven't ended up in the appropriate spot meaning the potty. I looked up elimination disorders and it talks about encopresis and that sound plausible for us. > > The article I found on webmd website it says (pardon the potty talk!) the rectum stretches and the child can't feel they have to go because the nerve endings become dull. I figured there is something impacted. > > I also wonder what it will be like for him in 1st grade if I give him oxypowder and if he becomes embarassed for not feeling he has to go when he is at school. Then he goes anyways. I want to help him but I'm afraid of what is going to happen at school. > > PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! > School starts August 10th here! Guest guest
> > Hi, My son is 15 and he was diagnosed with encopresis at about your son's age. He was given a balloon catheter and his muscles were tested at the balloon was inflated. His rectal muscles did not respond normally. So he really can't always feel it. We have put the emphasis on cleaning up AFTERWARD. He doesn't get in trouble for an accident, but he does get reprimanded for not telling us/cleaning himself up/etc. Also, he used to do his " 10 minutes " twice a day, where he HAD to sit on the toilet to help train his bowels. Try and schedule it at a time when your son usually goes. Many times they also need a stool softener, because chronic contipation causes much of the problem. Have faith though, it does get better over time! Amy > Anyone have experience with encopresis? My son is now 8yrs old.
