Guest guest
I posted this question once and did not get a response, so I would like to post it again. We did a food intolerance test and subsequently removed the offending food. It is my understanding that a food intolerance results from a damaged gut. We have been healing his gut with various products since last August. We NEVER have seen a reaction from an infraction. If I did another food intolerance test and his gut has healed, should it show no intolerances? He is on enzymes now and I want to start adding food back into his diet. Can anyone clear this up for me? We are going on vacation this summer and I would LOVE to be able to have him eat like the rest of the family, but not to the detrement of his health and behavior. Thanks Cheryl
Guest guest
This is only my understanding... If he is away from the foods long enough and his gut has been able to heal then the test could or should come back with no more intolerances. What happens next will depend on your son. If you test now and the results are negative it doesn't necessarily mean if you add the foods back it won't re-damage the gut. To be very sure you may need to add them back and then retest. The enzymes are a wonderful thing. I will forever be thankful for Devin Houston for making these products!!! My son was on a gfcf diet for a couple of years and we only recently started enzymes. We have allowed him to eat gluten with no restrictions but not really any dairy (long family history of intolerance). I haven't seen any reactions, his are behaviorally and eczema on his eyelids. I assume that his gut is doing well as the enzymes are digesting the foods before they hit the gut area where they would be doing damage. Many do let their kids go at least partially off their diet. Some do still have reactions with the enzymes. If you son never showed reactions (and mine would only if were a BIG infraction after a long time on the diet) I honestly would be inclined to try adding foods back and then retesting just to be sure you aren't headed down the gut destruction path again. That is my 2 cents, would be the best to answer. Have you looked at her site? It is www.enzymestuff.com I wish you well. I know what you mean about the vacation. We recently went home for a week and I won't lie, it was really nice not having to worry so much. cherylppls <cherylppls@...> wrote: I posted this question once and did not get a response, so I would like to post it again. Sorry, I didn't answer because I haven't done those sorts of tests. Now reading more closely -- my question is, after the tests that showed specific intolerances, and you removed those foods and added enzymes -- was there any change? What I'd do is try adding in some pure (no additives) examples of those foods with enzymes and see what happens. If there's no reaction at all I'd guess the food is tolerated now. Guest guest
Cheryl, Yes, if his gut is better, the intolerances go away, both on the test and accordingly by observation. This happenned to my son. He showed 20 food intolerances a year ago, and a year later less than a handful, and only 1 is the same (corn syrup!). You can usually call the lab that did the test for a free (included with the test) consult with a doctor on staff. They will tell you to rotate the previously offending foods weekly, or every 4 days. Then if he truly retests negative as my son did, they said every other day was fine. This may be different for true allergies versus intolerances. > > cherylppls <cherylppls@y...> wrote: > I posted this question once and did not get a response, so I would like > to post it again. Guest guest
I had the test from Sage Labs in Florida for my son. It was a blood test and was around $1000.00. Our insurance finally paid most of our bill after many letters. It was by far the best intervention my son has had. He had tons of foods, preservatives... on his list. Getting used to the new diet was very hard but well worth it for us. Our son is still low functioning however he is much better(in behavior and health) than he was. Good Luck. Lori [ ] Food Intolerance Test I think that I am going to bite the bullet here so to speak and pay out of pocket to have this test done on my 3 year old ASD /SPD son .. Insurance won't cover it but I am reading so many articles that say that the immune system and the food intolerances go hand in hand.. My son has been on 18 antibiotics and is sick every single month.. I have not tried the GFCF diet yet, it's such a huge commitment to make and not to mention expensive too . I read today that food intolerance could actually cause the immune system to weaken and cause the chronic colds and sinus infections that my son gets every single month.. Anyone else heard of this ? Can anyone recommend who they've used for this food tolerance test ? I can't afford the DAN doctor but I may be able to afford the one test and get the results sent directly to me .. The pediatrician does NOT believe in this and I would love nothing more than to prove him wrong on this and so many other things that he is so closed minded about.. I had to beg him to order a yeast test and he assured me it would come back negative and guess what, it came back positive.. He was not happy . he still thinks that biomedical things are ridiculous and don't work ! I've heard of the Great plains lab, but that's about it - can anyone offer assistance or suggestions for me ? Thanks so much
Guest guest
I used Great Plains for both my sons. The first was $300 because insurance rejected it and I had to pay for it myself. The second was $200 because I got smart and paid the cash price upfront (discounted). I'm very happy we did and plan to food challenge my sons in a few years and see if they have improved. I will use the tests again to verify the results. Good luck, Janet

Guest guest
I'm very lucky to have several doctors in my " small " communities witness and have been amazed by my son's allergies. Not until 9 months old, trying soy formula because he always spit up milk formula, he got a full body rash, did we start discovering them. I was pumping and was so tired of doing double duty, my older son being on the spectrum, busy times. Anyway..skin testing with an allergist, he lit up like a xmas tree. Was amazing! I think in my area I have top honors on food allergies. They learn and continue to learn through us. That is why they call it practicing medicine. He does take practice. I was lucky to search out and have an allergist with a son with food allergies. All my blood work has been done through Mayo. Insurance covered it all. He is pediatrician too, called an allergy specialist and asthma was also part of his specialty. Which we had a ton of issues too. Was amazing. I hadn't even whipped is nose and the next day he couldn't breath. Every cold was a trip in, steroids, antibiotics. We did flovent and that was a huge help. This year I back off and we've been off now for a couple months. I guess if you can find a good allergist, ask around, there are good and bad there. I've heard (we've moved) the local one here does not believe in corn allergies. Excuse me!!! He's not all that great with food allergies so we don't see him. But you can be allergic to just about anything on this planet. Guest guest
I had food allergy testing done by a local naturopath. The appointment and allergy panel was about $400, but well worth it in our case. The test showed that my son is 100 % allergic to all wheat/gluten products (and gave the specifics: rye, sphelt, etc.....). It also revealed that he's 100% allergic to eggs, my son's second love -- bread is his first. It revealed that he WAS NOT allergic to some of the things that I'd taken away, believing they were the allergens. The allergy panel has given us a lot of necessary info, and I'm glad we've had it done. @...: tkuhn1@...: Tue, 25 Mar 2008 22:33:15 -0500Subject: RE: [ ] Food Intolerance Test I'm very lucky to have several doctors in my " small " communities witness andhave been amazed by my son's allergies. Guest guest
I shopped around a LONG time for this... foodallergy.com (Alletess labs) I called foodallergy.com (number at the bottom of the webpage) and they gave me the name of a practitioner in my area. It was $85 for the test - no shipping charges - the results were mailed and faxed to me. You can order it online. The practitioner charged me $30 for the blood draw. It was a blood draw only - not a consult. SO: $115 is what I got it done for. My girlfriend was charged $360 for the *same* test and a consult from her practitioner. Yes it helps with all the things you mention and so much more. Great Smokies' web page on IgG's explains well what it's helpful with. If you don't want to do GFCF/SCD, consider doing enzymes (not just any kind though - enzymestuff.com) and I strongly recommend you read DeFelice's book " Enzyme Go With Your Gut " - go to one of her conferences if you can. She is A-MA-ZING. We use Houstons enzymes (www.houstonni.com), the chewables (all three kinds at every meal and large snack) and they're wonderful. But I have to admit, when I saw how sky high my daughter's IgG's are for dairy and wheat... we did slow down a little and make some subtle changes to her food - nothing expensive or crazy...
