I started him on a very low dose (10mg in HTP10, a neurotransmitter complex from painstresscenter.com 2 x day and now moodsync from same has 25mg). It helped with a number of behaviors and insomnia. Guest guest
>>>I was wondering if you have seen anyone have luck with less stims when taking 5-HTP?? With Zoloft yes, with 5-HTP no (with myself). My son did 'relax' quite a bit with Zoloft. I am much improved with Zoloft as well. I did try 5-HTP myself a couple years ago but just couldn't get a dosage that would give consistent results. I tried goofing around with it a couple times. So I just went back to the Zoloft because it was much easier to regulate how much med = how much improvement. Because of that inconsistency, I never tried it with my kids. If someone can get it to work consistently in their own family, I think that is great. I did notice an effect with 5-HTP. In fact, too much of that brought on the same side-effects as too much Zoloft. I read that 5-HTP and the SSRI medications like Zoloft work similarly on serotonin - to increase it. But the SSRIs increase it by 'forcing' the serotonin you have to stay in the nerve synapse longer, so your body sees more serotonin in the nerves than your body previously produced. With 5-HTP, it helps your body produce more serotonin altogether, so the nerves are actually seeing and using a higher amount than your body previously produced. It could be that whatever was not functioning well in me is resolved by the Zoloft mechanism and it wasn't something the 5-HTP could resolve. And other people may well have it the other way around. . Guest guest
Hello Tod, I have just started my son on 5HTP and the focus I have seen is amazing-and has the staying power. I am not giving it orally but instead I am mixing it in a little flax seed oil and rubbing it on my sons legs- very little twice a day- when I separate the capsule what is in the end of the capsule maybe 1/6 of a capsule it dissolves fast- my son is 8 and around 66#. I had all ready really calmed my son down with Calcium and Magnesium seperate from other supplements. I am reading the book " the Second Brain " right now by D Gershon, MD... I am finding it very interesting but will have to reread things that I highlight to really try to understand his ideas he tells how he get to the understanding that he has ( it is kind of a story form- when what I want are the facts- if this is happening do this kind of thing)It has been worth the little money I spent on the book and he talk about the need for Sertonin, transmitter, nerves and stuff like that... it is intresting. Well you know I think that any treatment is going to help about 50% of the kids and you won't know until you try. My 2 Cents Ann
Guest guest
We had the same experience with the 5-HTP and Zoloft. The 5-HTP really didn't do much. In fact, I think it might have been a bit too much of something. We started Zoloft and it has really helped with anxiety, has helped my daughter relax some. The combination of enzymes then adding Zoloft has been great. Re: --5HTP?? >>>I was wondering if you have seen anyone have luck with less stims when taking 5-HTP??
