Hi Hope, Almost all my life, I would get hungry after just a couple of hours of eating a meal and could eat as much as an adult when I was a child. When I had hyperthyroidism for several months, I was hungry ALL the time, even after just eating. It was an awful time! You'll need to request that test if there's any Thyroid concern since usually the doctors won't test on their own. Request that they check the T3, T4, and TSH just to be sure. You can research Thyroid issues online as well. I believe it's something metabolic when someone can eat and eat and not gain weight. I was never able to gain even 2 lbs and have it stay for more than a week until I started the combination of the Feingold Diet with my daughter (no artificial colors), Dr. Houston's AFP Peptizyde, a touch of No-Fenol along with Brainchild's Minerals. The doctors were never concerned about me not being able to gain the 5 pounds I wanted to gain. One doctor thought I should feel " lucky " . She had no idea of the frustration I was having to eat the amount I would eat and not gain weight that would stay long term. And then to have people make the comment, " Do you eat? " If they only knew. Thankfully, after a couple of months with the above combination, I finally gained 5 pounds AND it's staying!! I have never been able to achieve this before, so I'm very thankful. AND, that constant hunger feeling went away! If your little one is not taking minerals yet, maybe you'll see a difference with Brainchild's Minerals... www.Brainchildnutritionals.com Best wishes, Gretchen
Guest guest
Thanks Gretchen, It's great to hear you finally found a way to gain weight after such a struggle! We had his free T4 and his TSH checked and they were in the normal range. I don't know if thyroid tests are accurate or if we should look into it more. He is usually very warm. I am the opposite - usually colder than most people, I don't gain weight easily and my basal body temperature is low, though thyroid tests have always been normal. A lot of people talk about Brainchild products. Why are they so good? Are they absorbed better? We are giving him a bunch of minerals, all separately, mostly Kirkman's. They don't seem to make a difference. Thanks, Hope > > > He has only gained 1 pound since the summer but is neither over-, > nor > > underweight. Guest guest
hi, hope. i can completely understand this. my son is the same not sure how old gibson is, j is 3 1/2. yes, i buy almost that much broccoli, 3 bunches of asparagus, 2 lb bag of carrots, etc a week. and, yes, he asks to eat the stuff that has fallen on the floor. because he had always been failure to thrive (until recently), i let him (talk about feeling bad!). and, i have a second refrigerator in the garage. i know he always eats more when he is having a problem with yeast, or is not tolerating something he's eating. things i have done besides addressing the yeast/intolerance are to have food available to him almost constantly, like grazing. make meals as unimportant as possible and eventually (i know it's something i had to work toward), the same size as a snack. you already know the part about protein, and the other stuff. also, since starting the enzymes, he seems to yoyo a bit with the amount he's eating so i tend to give probably more enzymes than someone who eats less. hope that helps paula mom to joel > I have probably discussed my son Gibson, with the voracious appetite > before. Chicken was helpful for my son, altho I usually cooked it basted with honey, and he did not tolerate honey. Will your child eat just plain chicken? Today the therapist read a book with > the words " carrot soup " and I had made carrot soup the other day. > Well, he screamed and screamed for carrot soup for 20 min. until I > cooked him something else. Carrots were one of the WORST foods for my son. For my son, he needed removal of rice, artificials, and luteins [plus certain obscure things like honey]. http://www.saras-autism-diet.freeservers.com/Diet/Saras_Diet_I.html Chelation removed all these problems. Good luck. Dana
