What could cause flushed, red cheeks other than phenols or salicylates?

We're starting the Feingold diet and have eliminated Apple and

Orange juice which used to be all my son drank all day long. Is

there withdrawal symptoms? Periodically his cheeks get very

flushed/red and his behavior has been the worst it has been his

entire life - screaming, tantrums, throwing things, hitting, wild,

glazed eyes, horrible transitions, crying...just totally unable to

control himself!! This extreme bad behavior has been going on since

yesterday. He is constantly asking for Apple juice or Orange juice,

beannie weannies and Goldfish crackers. He is drinking water now

for the first time in his life. His supplement and enzyme regime

has been off track since he was very sick with ear infections (both

ears) and throat from Saturday night through Wednesday. Also, I

used to mix all of his supps. in his juice and now that he won't

hardly drink the Pear ot Pineapple juice I can't get evrything in

him during the course of the day. He was prescribed Zithromax, one

time dose of 2 1/2 tsp. which we gave Monday night but about 30 - 40

minutes later he vomited, so on the advice of the doctor, we gave

another 1 1/2 tsp. on Tuesday. Does this behavior and red face

sound like yeast? Die off of some bacteria from the antibiotic?

Withdrawal from something Feingold eliminates from the diet? He has

had runny, awful smelling, light color stools. Any insight or

suggestions is desperately sought after and extremely

appreciated!!! Thanks, KIM

i don't hold with some aspects of the feingold diet, like it gets

very diffcult to sort food into high and low salicylate despite the

feingold claims. even the relenancy of salicylates as opposed to

other chemcial compounds is difficult, processing of these compounds

is as indivdual as a face and systems don't work well.

you are much better to take food problems on a case by case basis

like i really get migrainy with raw apple but can tolerate small

amounts of cooked peeled apple. i avoid appple juice but find oranges

ok though commerical orange juice is a problem but not ones i squeeze

myself. with opitzinc, molybdenum and no fenol i can and am blitzing

my way through scrumptious grapes which i never could do before.

i share elaine gottshcalls distrust of what these fruit juice

processors do, unfortuantely labels are not always truthtful.

i just get a feeling of a need to understand scd about what you write.

sourcenaturals optizinc will help

yup sounds like chronic yeast. no fenol, candex, north american herb

and spice oreganol, garlic oil???? someone posted for yeast.

having all drinks warm helps the digestion. you could put a touch of

the juice in the water to make it more acceptable to him.

I would drop all four of these things. Not only can it be adjustment

to lower phenol content, it can also be yeast which the foods above

will feed. So it might be yeast fighting back.

Do you use probiotics or a yeast killer?

Pineapple can be nasty. Pear is usually okay.

It can also be that he does not tolerate one or more of his

supplements [my son did not tolerate supplements until well into

chelation]. Or conversely, he might need his supplements and has been

missing them.

Good luck.

Thanks Dana! I haven't given him the Apple or Orange juice, Goldfish crackers

or beannie weannies, but he does keep begging for them. They're not Feingold

approved. I give GSE for yeast and I give Culturelle probiotics too. So, it

sounds like yeast to you? That was my best guess, plus I agree with you his

body misses his supplements (I haven't introduced anything new, so it must be

that he needs them and hasn't been getting them). I did get some GABA yesterday

in desperation to try to calm him down. I considered NAC since I had read a

post suggesting to try it if the behavior on day 2-3 after a round was really

intolerable (suggesting they may need sulphur). What are your thoughts on that.

I haven't given him any NAC b/c we skipped this weekend. Next weekend will be

Round 8 ALA only. Thanks for your thoughts and reply!! KIM

i don't think you have got the background mineralisation right enough

to continue chelation.

another way of loooking at chelation is giving a supplement in such a

way as to make for a sustained blood levels of that supplement and

intrinsically these sustained blood level things (ttfd is similar)

are very hard on the body biochemistry since they force the body to

operate in some mode it wasn't designed for.

don't rely on people and make your own judgements and i think you

will see that things are not going well enough to continue.
