Chicki, welcome. If you haven't bought a basic liver reference book yet, two that we find useful are Dr. Palmer's Guide to Liver Disease and a similar one by Dr. G. Worman. Both can be found on Amazon.com, if you don't see them in your local bookstore. Dr. Palmer's book also can be bought on her website, liverdisease.com. They are well under $20.

Debby, I got my Hepatitis A and B vaccines at my GI's office (Kaiser.) They give them to ALL patients with AIH.

, I spoke briefly today to a former nurse who supervises marine mammal activities here. She tells me to not get anywhere near a sea mammal at this stage, due to infection possibilities. So, I'll be dropping out of the marine mammal rescue group. I can still do seal docent work, as that involves only watching.

Oh Harper....I am so very sad for you that you will have to drop out of the marine mammal rescue....but happy that you can still count the seals. You have really been looking forward to that.

The thing that really bothers me the most about this whole liver disease is that we go around trying to protect ourselves but no one seems to care! Guess I am just frustrated after my visit. I try to do the right thing.....and it doesn't seem to come out right.

Oh well......maybe I should just live on the edge! At least I will die happy!!!

Hi Laurie --I was wondering if you have taken him off artificial ingredients

and preservatives?? There could possibly be another common ingredient in the

coconut products. There is also the chance that organic may be the only kind of

coconut your child can tolerate. I know one boy who gets blisters in his

mouth from regular pears but is OK with organic pears. My oldest son can have

organic peanut butter but cannot tolerate regular peanut butter. My son can also

only eat " naturally opened " pistachios (I wonder what unnaturally opened

pistachios is ?????????). Another girl had trouble with tomatoes ALL her life.

As a

college student she went to Italy and ate tomatoes and had NO trouble. She has

found that she can tolerate organic " picked when ripe " tomatoes just fine.

Just points to ponder and other reasons for reactions to rule out. Laurie Curry

Stopping enzymes???? I wonder what part of the country you live in--I live in

VA and there are a few good Drs. who do tests for cell permiability and the

like. I am wondering if some of these tests or the heavey metals test (hair or

blood) could give you clues to why he is not gaining weight?? Laurie
