Guest guest
I suppose it is timely to post about a new adventure in Younger Son's social calendar. He has always had a few close friends at school, but he is quieter and doesn't make friends easily. In the past month, he has taken up playing MechWarrior at the local game shop. This is a long running table top game where you collect little figures, create armies, and have adventures with other peoples' armies. The game is very complex, involves a lot of math, calculations, and strategies. You often make alliances with other players for a time. All the other MechWarrior players in our area are older teenagers and guys in their 20s - plus our 11 year old son. They asked him to join their game and he played 6 hours one Saturday. And won the daily prize. He kept up with them and debated strategies, moves, and scores with them all day. So now we are blocking off MechWarrior tournament times. At least he is motivated to read a lot more and do math! And it is socializing with others while doing a hobby/activity. .
