For us, obsessive compulsive issues happen in direct response/proportion to

underlying viral and bacterial issues. When using Valtrex for a herpes 6

issue we saw most ocd behavior disappear completely.

We tried the abilify with our son and things got worse, but the

doctor was beside himself because my son is the only one that he did

not see improvement in. He was and still is on Risperdal for

Aggression. He has terrible OCD, but part of which I now believe is

light sensitivty. Lights always have to be off and blinds need to be

closed I thought were ocd issues but thru conversation in this group

I now believe it is light sensitivity. The fact that the switches

need to be in the same direction and the blind wands need to be

turned 10 times is definetly ocd. Eileen

This is interesting and Im sure you have already told me this. I had

him on Candex and Culturelle and had some problems and stopped both.

My daughter has Valtrex in the house for cold sore flare ups. Humph

should I give some to my son. Eileen

I am going to ask my doctor about this when I see him this week. My daughter is

having lots of cold sores and we know from an earlier viral panel that herpes is

a problem.

The nurse practitioner we saw gave her some cream for the sores, but she said if

they kept recurring she could give something orally. I'd like to try the

valtrex.

What mg. do you give and how long have you been using it? My daughter is 13.

Hi , I'm not , but I've used Valtrex for many years for

my cold sores. The doses and instructions have changed several

times over the years, but the last prescription I got, in 2003,

read, " take two tablets today, repeat in 12 hours. " They are 1 GM

caplets.

I also use a cream called Denavir (penciclovir cream). It worked

wonders! Three days before my wedding my lips were covered with

huge cold sores. I was ready to call the whole thing off. I called

the doc in a panic and he told me these two " new " drugs were out.

That was eight years ago.

Oh yeah, by my wedding, my lips were nearly 100% clear. In just

three days.

We used the Valtrex for 6 mo. Showed no difference/improvement in terms of

lab levels of the virus, however what we saw/experienced in terms of ocd

behavior disappearing and motor skills improving was proof enough for us.

Because we stopped going to the doctor that prescribed it, the new doctor we

saw used monolaurin and suggested we continued our enzymes to continue to

treat the virus. We had 250 mg. tablets that were cut into 1/3 and we gave 4

times daily. The initial 2 weeks were not fun, but I liked the med. because

unlike others it bounces around carrying out only the cells with the virus,

cells not carrying it, are left alone.

Valtrex is a serious med. and has to monitored by the doctor prescribing it.

Liver can take a beating with this med. and our munchkins are still

developing, so not something I'd use again. We're pretty happy with the

monolaurin and enzyme treatment. Of course this is combined with a whole

host of supplements that are supposed to boost the immune system and repair

the gut, so theoretically the body will eventually build up it's own defense

to this virus.

Thanks Right now I am so consumed with the possible thyroid issues that I am

not introducing anything else to him and I dont want to skew the blood work

up that he will be having done in a few weeks. Thanks EIleen
