Guest guest
I bought a bottle of Melatonin at the grocery store so I'm sure it's not the best brand out there but I was in a rush. I need to sleep. My question is, the caps are 300 mcg. I thought 1000 mcg = 100 mg which I *thought was the proper dose. Is this right? Thanks, Rhonda Olivia's mom
Guest guest
1000mcg = 1 mg theres no 'proper dose' rather a range form about 75 mcg to about 3 mg you could try one or two or three 300 mcg, its better to buy 3mg in a caps and then open to subdivide to reduce the amount fo filler. melatonin is really best as an adjunct, say about 300 mcg. > I bought a bottle of Melatonin at the grocery store so I'm sure it's not > the best brand out there but I was in a rush. Guest guest
Thanks . How long before you want to go to sleep, do you take it? I guess I mean, how long does it take to kick in? And once before I believe you mentioned that you shouldn't take it every night. Is that right? I really only need it a couple nights a week but it's never two consecutive nights. Guest guest
, I don't think I answered this post. I am trying melatonin to GET to sleep. Once I'm there, I'm fine but getting there is a huge problem. Any help you can offer would be appreciated as I'm already on Klonipin and don't really want to add another possibly addicting product, you know? I just bought the cheap brand that was at my grocery store, my shrink recommended I try it but didn't give me any particular brand. Mine's by Naturalist, which is put out by Rexall, so probably isn't that great. In any case, it's not working for me. Any suggestions? Thanks, Rhonda
Guest guest
well sleep is complex. melatonin is not addiciting but neither is it the whole answer. whey i found has helped and i am now back to sleeping 8 hours for the first time probably in twenty years though i still wake up several times in the night. if you want a melatonin to drop you dead soon after taking the natrol liquid melatonin is the one. the only snag with it is that it has an scd illegal sweetener which is an issue. i would suggest you try it. i would also recommend the lef.org 3 mg sustained release melatonin of which you can open the capsule and take about 1/10th of a cap on bed. > , > I don't think I answered this post. Once I'm there, I'm fine but getting there is a huge problem. Here is an odd idea. Based on the nice experiences of gfcf people with Pepcid AC for infractions, I decided to try it because enzymes [specifically No-Fenol enzyme] do not help me with all foods. I found a food item that I still have problems with, even with No-Fenol. It gives me an asthma-like condition [mucus in lungs, bronchial constriction and difficulty breathing], I need my Albuterol inhaler when I eat this food. Plus, if I eat it at dinnertime, I will have trouble falling asleep, and if I wake up in the night, I will be awake for about 2 hours, even if I take antihistamine. I took Pepcid AC along with No-Fenol enzyme, then ate this food. No Albuterol, slept all night. Good luck. Dana
Guest guest
We've always used chewable melatonin from Trader Joes. They're peperment flavored and come in .5 mg doses (which I believe is 500mcgs) We've been using it off and on since my son was 7 (he's now 13) He doesn't like melatonin because of it's short acting properties. It helps him fall asleep but after about four hours he's wide awake. I have found extended release melatonin but it cannot be crushed so it probably wouldn't be useful for a six year old, unless he can swallow a pill. I myself use it from time to time and it causes bizarre dreams every time. It also does this to my son but he's also bipolar and suffers from bizarre dreams anyway. We've found that a low dose of generic Atarax called Hydroxyzine helps my son fall asleep at night. Hydroxyzine is used primarily as an antihistamine for the treatment of itching, allergies, hyperalgesia, motion sickness-induced nausea, and insomnia, as well as notably for the treatment of mild anxiety. Even though it is an effective sedative, hypnotic, analgesic, and tranquilizer, it shares almost none of the abuse, dependence, addiction, and toxicity potential of other drugs used for the same range of therapeutic reasons.
