Does anyone have a good remedy for conjunctivitis for my six year old?

I have tried eyebright but although it starts to clear up we end up back at

square one. I don't want to go to the doctor as when my son had it before they

gave us drops containing mercury.

Any help gratefully received!

I tried using MSM for my dry eyes and CS too. CS will sting if

it is killing something like bacteria off. I wouldn't do it to a little

one. Maybe wipe along the outside but not use it as drops.

Do you think the child could be low in taurnine? This is an

amino acid support that the eyes needs. I don't know if

conjunctivitis is a sign of low taurine.

I have heard colloidal silver directly in the eye is helpful. I do virtually

all natural approaches to attack stuff but I must say, if it were my family,

I would need to do some research to make sure it would be okay. There is

something that sounds scary to me about putting it in the eye. I have given

both

adults and kids colloidal silver internally.

According to my herbal books, heat kills many of the microorganisms that

causes conjunctivitis. So use any preparation like eyebright tea or even

camomile tea as hot as you can - please test on your eyelid first before

applying to the child. Soak a cotton pad in the tea and apply to the closed

eyelid. Repeat several times a day. I have had great success with this

treatment on my kids. (Some books recommend adding goldenseal in the tea,

but goldenseal can be very expensive - but it is antibacterial/antiviral.)

Also recommended are vitamin A, C and E and zinc supplements to strenghten

the eye and aid healing.

Another alternative would be to go to a good pharmacy and ask them for some

sort of drops. I find that good, experienced pharmacists are much more

knowledgeable about side effects and other consequences of medications and

can help you find something that will work without causing harm. But

usually they are at least 50-60 years old!.

I'm not an expert of colloidal silver at all, but my opinion is that

colloidal silver is a metal and I wouldn't give it to my kids if they had

any sort of liver problem or metal toxicity. A person with a healthy liver

may be able to process it, but I'm not so sure about people who are mercury

or other metal toxic.

I know it does work because it kills germs/viruses/bacteria. The herbal

docs I studied under were very against it but I can't remember all the

reasons. The practice of using metals to kill viruses etc comes from the

middle ages when they used metals like gold, siver and mercury to cure

diseases. Many patients died (especially those treated with mercury) which

is why it fell out of favor! Whether it is safe or not, I'm not sure, but

I've been reluctant to recommend it to people because of my concerns.

However, my parents have used it from time to time for the last 10 years and

it hasn't done them in yet.
