Guest guest
>12 months, never any antibiotics, mostly gluten free with occasional >dairy, has two older siblings with autism and pdd. I was wondering if I'm not an enzyme expert yet, but with my boys their stools did not firm up till we went from occasional dairy to NO dairy. Also, what have you replaced dairy with? If Soy than that can be problematic for some, try switching to rice milk and see if that helps. HNI Peptizide helps with processing soy as well as Gluten/Casein so that could help too... - near LAX
Guest guest
Hello April, Do enzymes firm you up or loosen things? ----Enzymes for the most part will firm the BM His stool tests came back normal although his blood test showed he is slightly anemic. I know that supplemental iron can firm things up but would that be getting to the root of the problem? ----I had not heard about iron helping. WITH MY SON WE WENT YEARS WITH LOSE STOOL - THEY SEEM TO BE RELATED TO HIS IN TAKE OF SUGAR -SO WE STOPPED ALL SUGAR-AND FOOD COLORINGS- MY SON IS STILL ONLY EAT A FEW FOODS SO WE MAKE SURE HE GETS HIS AMINO ACIDS, ESSENTIAL FATTY ACIDS A GOOD MULT VITAMIN AND A COMPLETE ENZYME AND OVER TIME HIS GUT WAS ABLE TO HEAL - HE ALWAYS HAD YELLOW STOOL AND WOULD ACT REALLY NORMAL ON DAYS HE WOULD HAVE A BROWN STOOL SO WE SEARCH FOR THE KEY TO THAT AND OX BILE IN A ENZYME I FOUND HAS SEEMED TO DO THE TRICK ALTHOUGH NOW HE SEEMS TO ITCH MORE. I HOPE YOU CAN FIND THE KEY TO HELPING YOUR SON. My 2 cents Ann
Guest guest
Dear April, Just got back from the DAN! conference in L.A. Dr. Krigsman, a gastroenterologist specializing in autistic kids, said that chronic loose stools aren't normal and that parents shouldn't let their pediatrician tell them it's " toddler's diarrhea " or that it's normal...A referral to a gastroenterologist is a reasonable thing to ask for if you're worried. Chronic loose stools are one of the things that people get referrals to gastroenterologists for. They can do a stool analysis and see if there are medical reasons for the loose stools. There are different reasons for loose stools that might only come up in labs - for my son, it was parasites (he had pica and put EVERYTHING in his mouth - his doctor said his chronic diarrhea was " toddler's diarrhea. " When he was five, I pointed out he wasn't a toddler anymore -- I wonder how long those parasites had been doing their thing....) Hope this helps - , mom to and help needed for 16 month old diarreah > > Hi, > > My 16 month old has chronic loose stools. He has had maybe 10 solid > movements in his lifetime. Guest guest
Except not every GI will listen to your concerns - we just saw one and he totally dismissed that my boys could have any problems with wheat or milk and thought the problem was fructose. Well, needless to say I think that's a bunch of whoooy since their stools got normal 1st in their lives after removing wheat/milk and we did not change at all their fruit/juice intake which I've always been fairly strict on how much juice is allowed. He wants to do lactose and fructose intollerance test before doing anything else...still debating if it's worth our while... - near LAX At 01:11 PM 10/6/2004, you wrote: >Dear April, > >Just got back from the DAN! conference in L.A. Guest guest
Well add me to the list of bad GI experiences. I have learned that as soon as you say autism doctor's attitudes change. You are now just a complaining parent....and autistic children are just over sensitive to normal body functions. Our GI doctor also wanted us to put gluten & dairy back in his diet. He gave no answers other than low lactose levels. One good thing happened, we convinced him to give my son secretin during a GI scope with positive result!!! Forgive me for being negative. I try to stay postive.... momtosteven3 <momtosteven3@...> wrote: I also did not have a good experience with any of my GI doctors. My last one told me that he did not believe my two year old had celiac disease because he looked healthy. NO Kidding! We had been on the GF/CF diet for a year. I tried to explain that he had diarrhea and vomiting for three months straight and had lost a lot of weight and once we removed gluten and dairy it stopped. He did not listen to anything I had to say. He tried to encourage me to give him gluten and dairy. I also tried to talk to him about my other two children. I said " you do not find it strange that I have three children with these serious problems " ? He really did not know what to say. I have not been back.
