yeast and AFP

Hi:

I've been a lurker on this group for perhaps 1 1/2 years. My son,

Spencer, is almost 6 years old and has been on the GFCF diet for over a

year. I read DeFelice's book and gave him AFP Peptizyde last

fall. At 1/4 capsule, he got facial movements, and he flicked his ear. I

stayed with it for about 5 weeks, thinking it was an adjustment

period. After corresponding with Kare DeFelice, I realized that yeast was

interfering with the positive effect of AFP. I took him off of AFP. We

started berberines in February to treat yeast and are now using Yeast Aid

to treat yeast. We'll test for yeast in four more weeks.

Since it's the summer and I hoped most of the yeast is gone, I introduced

Zyme Prime. Spencer had some mouth movements (which is usually a sign of

yeast) and occasional ear flicking. He takes one capsule. Along with Zyme

Prime, I reintroduced AFP peptizyde in May (1/4 capsule) but the ear

flicking got worse and mouth movements remained. He also bites/sucks his

lower lips, and this behavior worsened with 1/4 capsule of AFP. Thinking

that perhaps he responded to chlorine in the pool, I took him off of AFP

for a few days, and the ear flicking continued. He says he touches his

ear because it hurts. He will take swim lessons for another 3 weeks. He's

still on 1/4 cap of AFP and 1 capsule of Zyme Prime, and the ear flicking

and lip sucking is worse. I try to give him a shower after swim lessons,

but mostly fail to do so.

My hope was to successfully get him on 1 capsule of Zyme Prime and 1

capsule of AFP peptizyde this summer, so that I could reintroduce

casein/gluten before school starts. His reaction to the enzymes is so

disappointing. I'd like to take him off of AFP but don't want to go

through another 3 week adjustment period. Any advice?

Hoch

See my pool chlorine page, this is likely a yeast problem

Try giving only the ZP, see if that helps.

Increase your yeast protocol, maybe add GSE or another active yeast

killer.

Give epsom salt baths after swimming, maybe consider some of the other

ideas on my page above.

, If you don't mind me asking, how are you getting the

Yeast Aid into your child? I have tried Orange/Pineapple Juice

which worked for about 8 days and then was refused. I waited a week

and started again by adding it to Sunny Delight. Now after a week

or two he's refusing it again. What's working for you?

Thanks,

,

Sorry this is a few days delayed. It sounds like your yeast treatment

isn't nearly as strong as it might need to be. 1/4 capsule of

Peptizyde is just enough to irritate the yeast, cause some die-off

(which can manifest as bad behavior), and then the yeast will grow

again. If you never got higher than 1/4 capsule, it would look like

constant intolerance. It isn't enough to really impact or dent the

yeast problem. Yeast is a hard one to get rid of so most people

really have to go at it with several things.

Most people doing a yeast program find the most success using a low

sugar/starch diet AND good doses of enzymes targeting yeast AND a

yeast killer or two AND detox to help with die-off (like epsom salts

and extra vitamin C).

Peptizyde and especially No-Fenol tend to have a much bigger impact

on yeast than Zyme Prime. This would explain the bigger ear flicking

and other behaviors seen with the Pep. So I definitely wouldn't count

out enzymes as 'not working'. They might be working really well and

this is die-off that is inching in and out.

When yeast or bacteria is afoot, the body is quite busy in trying to

detox it all. So any additional toxins has a big impact....such as

chlorine in the pool or artificial additives, or chemicals in the

environment such as perfumes.

You might want to start again with the Zyme Prime regularly and put

together a complete yeast program. If you have yeast aid still, start

that and plan on the Peptizyde causing die-off. Epsom salts might be

really helpful to relieve any discomfort for your son. Please post or

write me how you are progressing.
