Yes, it can be the coloring/flavoring. But antibiotics also tend to

aggravate yeast. You might consider increasing your yeast protocol.

Ann,

Do you give your little girl a probiotic?

If not, you may want to.

Antibiotics wipe out the good bacteria as well as the bad and then

the yeast just thrive.

Hi, Ann

One full capsule of No-Fenol with each meal is already a lot. Ask if

you can get the antibiotic in capsules that can be opened and mixed

in something your child can tolerate. The powder in the capsules

should be dye-free.

If your child is having strep throat and behavior changes that occur

a few days to several weeks afterward, you should educate yourself

about PANDAS. http://www.enzymestory.com/PANDAS.html

I would also consider a good quality yogurt from the healthfood store

for getting probiotics in her.

I agree with all these posts about probiotics. My son went wacky on

amoxicillan and within hours of starting a probiotic for the first

time it really helped. It turned out in the end that he has a real

allergy to amoxicillan, so that sure didn't help either. Good luck.

I've been giving her a Culturelle every day. Maybe she needs more?

I have GSE on hand and have used it sucessfully for myself but I'm

not sure how I can get her to take it b/c of the strong taste. Any

suggestions?

I take a Capri Sun juice pouch and pour half out. Then add a few

drops of GSE through the hole the straw goes in.

My 3 yr. old son doesn't even taste the GSE.

Does she have diarrhea? My son recently had the same abx. for a

month long ear infection and he ended up with clostridia (sp?). I

have him on flaygl and have increased the probiotics. I have his on

primal defense and cuturelle. He was just treated with diflucan for

yeast and I think it set up the whole chain of events. I thought I

would throw that option out there (as if you didn't have enough).

Her stool is still firm although she has had diarrhea in the past

with antibiotics. I gave her a little GSE yesterday and she was very

gassy and burpy (much to her delight as a 5 yo!). I'm thinking yeast

but wonder if it could be other stuff. We haven't tried primal

defense but I do give her a Culturelle every day. Ann

The coloring can cause these reactions. My nephew used to be highly

sensitive to Red #40. My SIL first pinned this down when he went

berserk on amoxicillan. She discontinued it and he returned

to 'normal' about 24 hours later. Further testing of the dye color

showed he was highly sensitive to it. He is now 13 and has grown out

of this largely but still can't tolerate that color in great

quantity. No-Fenol might be helpful with this but it might not. In

general it is highly effective on actual foods. Artificial colorings

are different - some people have success with it and some not so much.

A good probiotic is wise considering all the antibiotics. You want

the good bacteria to get in there and colonize. We like the Dannon

artificial-free line. The Culturelle is good, but if you go with

supplements, consider adding something with acidophilus and even

other strains of probiotics (acidophilus being a huge one).

Probiotics colonize and work in different areas of the gut, so a

mixture might be helpful.
