Guest guest
We have tried 3 times now to give the Spectrum Support Brainchild vitamins and minerals to my son and he just can't tolerate them. I want to try a different kind of vitamin but need help. Does anyone have another suggestion? A different brand? Good ideas for how to have his vitamin/mineral levels checked to see where he is deficient? I've tried the minerals separate, the vitamins separate, doing VERY slowly with doses for each and both. I want to return them and start with someone else (they were a FORTUNE) but dont think that will be possible at this point. feeling frustrated kyra, mom to wyatt
Guest guest
What other nutrients are you giving, if any? Are you following a special diet? What was Wyatt's reaction to enzymes? Thanks, .
Guest guest
Hi , thanks for responding. I've been giving wyatt cod liver oil, and HNI enzymes (peptizyde and Zyme Prime--we worked up to dose slowly the past few months) and he responded very well but now I'm about to try the GFCF diet for a while just to see. he's having such a hard time going to sleep (ALWAYS has been a terrible sleeper - still wakes up during the night several times and is almost 4 years old) and is very itchy, lately has been complaining about itching bum, itching inside his ears, has been itchy on his back and arms the last couple of months on and off at bedtime. generally he's a good eater and i give him good whole foods, easy on sugar, no chocolate, not much juice, but now i think i have to at least try to eliminate possible culprits and see what happens. i want to give him a good multi vitamin and also wonder about other supplements AND have been wondering about melatonin. any feedback would be so appreciated. thanks! > > What other nutrients are you giving, if any? You might want to consider going to your local health food store and purchasing all the Bs as individuals, then give them one at a time to see which one/s your child needs. Then, once you figure it out, try adding a B50. I did this, it is the subject of my next update [tomorrow] and it was very informative. Sleep issues are commonly caused by phenol intolerance and/or yeast http://www.danasview.net/phenol.htm http://www.danasview.net/yeast.htm >>and is very itchy, lately has been > complaining about itching bum, itching inside his ears, has been itchy > on his back and arms the last couple of months on and off at bedtime. How much IU of vitamin A [CLO] do you give him daily? Itchy can mean yeast, but it can also mean vitamin A toxicity. It can also mean B6 toxicity or a few other things. Guest guest
Hi Kyra, I'm not at the office right now, so I can't look up which formulas you've tried. If you haven't given our Ultra-Sensitive Formula a try, that's the next one, I'd say. We'd be happy to talk about getting some of your money back for the ones you can't use. If you're on Ultra-Sensitive and your child is as reactive as you describe, I'd say you're down to only being able to try one nutrient at time to try to figure out what is causing the reactions. I'm not trying to brag when I say that I don't think you'll find a multivitamin that is cleaner than ours, just trying to save you time/frustration.. Here's another thought for you: You may want to think about doing Bioset treatment for your child. It's a therapy where they test to see which substances your body is not tolerating, then treat you to desensitize you. It's a little bit like muscle resistance testing. Bioset is done with a computer and two contact points on your hands, and is non-invasive and possible to do on kids, although it can take some time. It's one of the 'voo-doo' treatments -- pretty out there, but if you find someone good at doing it, many moms tell me it's been helpful for them in increasing the effectiveness and tolerance to supplements. It can be billed as acupuncture, which some insurance will cover. I'm just thinking that if your child is reactive even to our minerals, they must be very sensitive indeed, and may be reacting to many things around them that you're not even aware of. Bioset tests for other substances as well as foods and nutrients, such as chemicals, molds, etc. If you tell me where you live (on or off list), I'll ask around to a bunch of moms I know on another list, and maybe someone knows a practitioner in your area. Guest guest
My 4 year old daughter is on the sensitive formula (don't have the exact name in front of me). You've probably already gone this slow but I'll give what we did just in case it helps. The instructions said to start with 1/8 of the recommended dose so for us that was 1/8 tsp. If I got the littlest bit more I had a grouchy kid! So I had to be very careful with the dosing. I also only started with just one meal. After this for a few weeks I am now just adding the 1/8 tsp to a second meal and I'll wait a couple weeks before adding it to the 3rd meal then I'll slowly increase the dose from there. We are also only doing the minerals at this time and won't add the vitamins until the minerals are well established at all three meals and close to the recommended dose (or a dose she tolerates well). If you haven't already e-mailed Terri, do as she can help work through it. I can definately tell a difference in my daughter with these minerals! She really has the happy child effect, she's very cute, comes up with many novel answers and has been so much fun (a big bonus for the holidays). She is high functioning and has expressive and receptive language but this has just added a new dimension. Best Wishes! Guest guest
Not sure if this is helpful to you, but just thought I'd mention that it took a long, long time for us to work up to one tsp each of vitamins and minerals. For my son, it was worth the patience. At one tsp. of each, we are still two doses away from what is " appropriate " for his weight (1-1/2 tsp of each). Just a few days ago I've started increasing his dose, EVER so slightly. Even an extra 1/8 of each, if that, is causing excessive energy and stimming. But, we're also getting a lot of extra language, too. So for us, it's been very, very worth it to " do the BrainChild dance, " as my hubby calls it. We just have to take it extremely slowly, with everything we add, including the BrainChild. FWIW, > My son, a super-reactor, is also sensitive to the Brainchild vitamins and > minerals.
