Guest guest
This could also be a correlation between a highly sensitive person getting in the cycle of: ear infection - antibiotic without probiotic - another ear infection - more antibiotic with no probiotic... etc and you end up with dysbiosis and a bad gut leading to all sorts so problems with poor digestion. It might not be the amoxicillan causes autism directly (very likely it doesn't) but it is one part of this whole cycle. My older son with the debilitating behavior problems was the one with successive ear infection cycles from 1yr to 2yr old...but he was definitely 'quirky' way before that. Younger son might have had 2 ear infections total in his life and he is the one with the really bad gut problems. >>>>Interesting, but my daughter never had an ear infection or any antibiotics until she had her first ear infection at 7. She was already diagnosed with autism by age 3. >
Guest guest
I believe my daughter fits this pattern of dysbiosis and a bad gut. She has renal reflux and has taken antibiotics every day since she was three weeks old to prevent kidney infections. She took amoxicillin daily until she was two months old and then Bactrim daily for the past 8 years. Taking her off the antibiotics is not an option until she outgrows the reflux or it is surgically corrected since a kidney infection would quickly damage her kidneys. She took Augmentin only once for an ear infection but she had to be taken off quickly due to an allergic reaction to it. I have given her Acidophilus or yogurt in the past but not consistently every day. She has lots of allergies and she was diagnosed with autism although she is high functioning. Recently I started giving her Primadophilus Junior every day. For about a week she was very uncomfortable. She was extremely agressive and she banged her head hard over and over to the point that some of her hair fell out. She was also very thirsty. The people at the health food store had never heard of this reaction to a probiotic. I thought it might be yeast die-off so I gave her epsom salt baths and increased her sensory diet. After about a week she was better than she has been for a long time. I'm not quite sure what to do next. I started her on some aloe vera juice, a calcium, magnesium and zinc supplement and an enzyme called Digest by Enzymedica. Is that good? She seems even better than before. She is sleeping more soundly and the dark circles around her eyes are starting to go away. The only bad side effect I see is she is sleeping so soundly now she wets the bed a little more often than before. Should I give her some Grapefruit Seed Extract to make sure the yeast are dead? Thank you for your insight. > > This could also be a correlation between a highly sensitive person > getting in the cycle of: > > ear infection - antibiotic without probiotic - another ear infection - > more antibiotic with no probiotic... etc > > and you end up with dysbiosis and a bad gut leading to all sorts so > problems with poor digestion. If she is better, then I would say it is good. She is sleeping more soundly and the dark circles around her > eyes are starting to go away. You can certainly try GSE or maybe increase the probiotics to continue with eliminating the yeast. Dana
