Guest guest
Hey everyone! I wanted to post this happy moment because I LOVE it when others do this...always lifts me and gives me hope. It is with guarded happiness that I write this...peaks and valleys...you all know the drill! My husband and I tend to be cautious/nervous people; especially when it involves our children's health or future. We make decisions super slow and in the case of enzymes and supplementation, we move really slow. We were happy with our approach until cold and flu season came upon us. Our son is just 3 months shy of 3 years old, ASD, and responding nicely to enzymes (we love HNI). He was " stabilized " on small doses of AFP pep, ZP, and NF. He has improved on those small amounts, so we were increasing doses a couple of times each month and by teeny fractions so the die off would not interfere with his VB instruction. We did not realize he would improve and tolerate larger doses now!!! He got sick about 7 weeks ago, and did not return to his " old " and " improved since enzymes " self. When he caught his second cold about 3 weeks ago, we gave large doses of AFP to battle the cold (per 's caring suggestion...THANK YOU KAREN) on top of the careful fractional doses for his meals and snacks. Well, as told me happens at her house, the cold was 1/3 of the intensity and lasted about 1/3 - 1/2 of the time! This never had happened for our little immune-weak boy. That was wonderful, but it got better because our nervousness about giving more enzymes a bit (or in our case, a lot) more quickly was gone. So after the illness, we moved his weird doses to simply 1/4 t. of powder of AFP at every meal and snack. He did fine with that, but I was still seeing a lot more stimming, lack of focus, less language, more frustration and was easily overstimulated. We tried a few other things thinking he had an imbalanced gut (BMs and behaviors indicated something was off)...but the yogurt route was not tolerated, but I could see his BMs improve - - - So we decided - - - heal that little gut before we try probacteria again (he needs them, but we haven't found a tolerated route yet). We threw our nerves aside knowing the enzyme drill and knowing when to back down (if the die off was too harsh). Today, Clay got 1/4 t. of Zyme Prime at each meal (pretty significant increase). Well, BMs are showing die off...BUT would you believe these improvements!?! Watching the TV interactively (not as a stim). An amazingly 'typical' sense of humor, articulation almost perfect, and happy, happy, happy! Looking at his little sister for interaction instead of sloloming around her. Oh, heart be still! The biggest shocker was outside today. Today, my little guy did not just run and swing. He climbed all over his jungle gym, carefully manipulating his feet on the ladders, enjoying maneuvering through the tunnels, he was aware of how high he was and for the first time, I was not worried he was gonna fall. The best was the slide! He always reached out for us to hold his hands and guide him as he would slide. Not today! He looked me square in the eyes as I stood a few feet away waiting for his reach...instead he popped his feet out from under his bottom, getting in perfect sliding position at the top of the slide, he said (loudly) to me " slide! " and he slid down, planted those feet on the ground ran right back around giggling (appropriately) to do it again. I almost ran around the cul de sac gathering my neighbors to watch MY child play right. I resisted and just soaked it up! We had a blast today! Even if by textbook, the " happy child effect " shouldn't be in effect, we are seeing something to that nature at our house. If you are lurking and aren't sure whether to give enzymes a shot...my personal opinion is, give them a shot! They do no harm and lifted my son's fog away (even if it is temporary, it is wonderful)! Happy New Year! ~ __________________________________________________
