Every time I try supplementing with EFAs, I regret it. My son seems to tolerate none of them, even with enzymes. > problem with their children not tolerating fish oil or the E added to it and > can tell me how they resolved this? You can try giving it with enzymes [Zyme Prime], see if that helps. Vitamin E is commonly made from soy, and that causes problems for many kids. Guest guest
I did a pretty thorough search for essential fatty acids without the added soy-based vitamin E. There are none. My daughter does not tolerate soy and maybe not the fish oil. " Cranky " does not even come close to her reaction. I think canola, sunflower, and maybe safflower oil supplies some of the omega 3s and 6s. Guest guest
Those oils supply way too many omega 6's in comparison to the omega 3's. The metabolic products of omega-6 acids promote inflammation, blood clotting, and tumor growth, the omega-3 acids act entirely opposite. Although we do need both omega-3s and omega-6s it is becoming increasingly clear that an excess of omega 6's can cause loads of problems. A major reason for the high incidence of heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, obesity, premature aging, and some forms of cancer is the profound imbalance between our intake of omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids. Our earlier ancestors evolved on a diet with a ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 of about 1:1. A massive change in dietary habits over the last few centuries has changed this ratio to something closer to 20:1!! YIKES! If you need to forego the marine oils then flaxseed oil, walnut oil are excellent choices, assuming there are no issues with these. The main component of flaxseed and walnut oils is alpha-linolenic acid while the predominant fatty acids found in fatty fish and fish oils are eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Guest guest
Walnut oil is a great source. > > I know how important omega 3's are but my son doesn't seem to do > well with > > what I've been giving him. Should be fine to try. Besides the Nordic Naturals ProEFA and EyeQ, a product called Efalex is used to help with language. . ************* is it important to have the EFA and DHA together? NSI brand at Vitacost.com has a DHA molecular distilled fish oil that I was considering. Sharon K.
