Guest guest
Dear Jan, Please, please do something about lowering your cholesterol. I learned the hard way - a heart attack last July..... It was caused by cholesterol buildup in the main artery (the doctors call it the widow-maker) - had to have a stent put in. Prednisone put my cholesterol way up and I listened to my Gastro rather than my GP who kept nagging me about it, but I didn't want to take any more drugs...... a big mistake! I found that Zocor worked really well, but after the heart attack the cardiologist wanted me on Lipitor (they are both statins). Since I've been off the prednisone I can't stand either because they increase my joint pain to the point where I can't sleep. I started taking Maxepa, a marine lipid concentrate which is supposed to lower cholesterol and ease joint pain, about a month ago. So far it's not really helping, but natural meds do usually take longer to work and I've just been told by the pharmacist to double the dose. I also take Metamucil, use ProActiv Flora margarine (a plant sterol) and drink tomato juice daily - all supposed to lower cholesterol??? There are a couple of alternatives I could try, but one thing at a time...... Cholesterol is serious stuff........you've got to do something! You can always jump over the water and have a liver transplant here in Brizzie! Hope you're feeling okay. Because I had a bad experience with gemfibrozil (not a statin), Ive said no. Yesterday my specialist contacted me & said he strongly advised me going on to a statin and told me to go to my GP to arrange this. My cholesterol is 8. So I know a few of you are already taking cholesterol lowering drugs & would like to know how you get on with them. The specialist said that all statins can affect liver and I would need blood tests done weekly at first, then fortnightly for ever more. To my way of thinking, anything that can risk my liver taking a dive for the worse is not worth the risk, as here in NZ liver transplantation is not an option, as transplanting is in its infancy. So Im thinking why take this drug to avoid me having stroke/heart attack sooner or later, perhaps, when my liver isnt too bad at this stage and risk more adverse effects. Ive been told they're very safe but if this was true why will I have to undergo more regular bloods. I already have my bloods done every month, or am supposed to....lately I stretch it out to two monthly. Any thoughts welcome. One of my major problems is that Im sensitive to any drug & I think most people with AIH are. Another thing Im puzzling over is that Im as skinny as (58kg), 5ft6....Ive been told over the phone by a nurse who doesnt know me, when she relayed the message I had high cholesterol was that I must lose weight. When she finally met me I asked her where I should lose weight and she acknowledged how thin & scrawny I am. > Love Jan
Guest guest
Jan & Bozena, Oat bran added to your diet is also good for lowering your cholesterol, you can put it in your hot cereal or in your baked goods. If you cut out transfatty acids that will also help, they make some good tasting products now. Margarine is one of the worst forms of transfatty acids, anything that is hydrogenated is very bad. I avoid tropical oils. Our family only uses nonfat milk (skim milk) we are so used to drinking it we don't miss the regular ones with fat. I will be praying for you Jan as you work toward better health. Love, RuthBozena Patin <bpatin@...> wrote: Dear Jan,Please, please do something about lowering your cholesterol. Guest guest
Have a question? My daughter has a rash kinda pinkish in color its on her stomach, back, upper body not on face or arms though. It has been a month. Its kinda scaly it does itch her. Is this a allergic reaction? Or could it be a sign of yeast? We have not changed anything shes not on any meds I did just start a probotic again , but that was just a few days ago. Thinking its gonna help with this. She has a doc appt. in the morning , but I was wondering your all's opinion. She had a sore throat and cough about a month ago ,and she had a few spots. They put her on an antibotic , but I only gave it to her for about 4 days becasue I know what it does to the yeasts. Any advice would be helpful. I was gonna recommend the nystain to see the urgent care gave her creams a few spots they treated as ring worm. I dont know!!!! Thanks again! Guest guest
did the dr. say it was strep when she had the sore throat? if so she should have finished the antibiotics regardless of the yeast. have the dr. look at the rash and remind them of the sore throat and the diconinuation of the antibiotics. i don't want to scare you but untreated strep can cause rheumatic fever which can then damage the heart valves. if she ever needs an antibiotic again just have the doc give a shot the shots don't get in the intestines so it doesn't help the yeast. but have the doc look at the rash a rash on the trunk of the body is one of the signs of rheumatic fever. not trying to scare you but better to be safe than sorry.good luck

If so, it might be the start of dermatitis herpetiformis http://www.celiac.com/index.html >>We have not changed anything shes not on any meds I did just start > a probotic again , but that was just a few days ago. If she really did need antibiotic, giving it for only 4 days might have allowed the bacteria to grow, rather than killing it off.
