Hi all. My poor daughter is really struggling with constipation for

about a month now. It all started right before Thanksgiving when I

took her off gfcf diet (b/c it was too hard and I didn't think it was

working). She is back on the diet now, for about a month

consistently. Since we went off the diet around Thanksgiving,

however, she has had problems with constipation. She just recently

went 10 days without a bm. We were finally able to get her going

again by using an enema. It was awful. It was right around that

time we went back on gfcf diet that we also began using Peptizyde

rather than the usual Kirkman enzyme she had been using. I'm just

now beginning to wonder if the enzyme could have caused some sort of

die-off effect with yeast and that the yeast die-off could be

contributing to the constipation? If so, should I lower the dosage

of the Peptizyde. Currently she is still gfcf AND taking the Pep as

well. We're having to give her the enema for the next few days just

to get her poor little body cleaned out. The pediatrician has us

giving her Milk of Magnesia in hopes of her spontaneously having her

own bms without having to be rectally stimulated. I read a previous

post about rubbing the castor oil on the belly. That's something I'm

willing to try. I need some suggestions as to what may be CAUSING

the constipation in the first place so that we can get to the root of

the problem!! Thanks.

Chloe,

I'm not certain about enzymes causing constipation, but I do know

that my son has been constipated and I contribute it to a

combination of yeast and bacteria. He typically has loose stools

and since Thanksgiving, he had been more on the constipated side.

We were having to give him quite a bit of magnesium to keep his

stools moving. We finally started to treat his yeast and bacteria

with Culturelle, and he is getting regular again. Do you currently

give a probiotic? If not, that may be something you want to try.

We have used a couple of different brands and I really like the

culturelle. We only give him about 1/4 of a cap a day, but that

seems to be enough to really help with the yeast and bacteria.

Hope that helps!
