Hi there, new to the list here. I have thyroiditis, the autoimmune kind and I understand that iodine is only a problem if you are taking synthetic thyroid hormone...or if you have HYPERTHYROID. Otherwise iodine is needed by the thyroid to make hormones. Infact hypothyroid is linked to iodine and selenium deficiency. In my case I am trying to deal with mercury (which displaces iodine in the thyroid) toxicity caused from dental fillings and the parasites that go along with it. Ironically enough, iodine is also needed to keep parasites away. That's my 2 cents...interested in any feedback. Guest guest
-None that I have ever heard of! Iodine is often used to protect the thyriod from radiation exposure as this substance is mostly used by the thyriod. It sounds to me like he was " blowing sunshine " you know where. If he completely discounted heavy metals, he is not going to help you. My doc acted the same way despite tons of evidence that metal is the problem. He is not my doc anymore. -- In , Tina Payton <amamteews@...> wrote: > > Have any of you heard of iodine being a natural chelator? My doctor suggested giving it to my son, I haven't since when I was trying to tell him about every other option he acted like there was no possible way my son's issues were related to heavy metal toxicity. This being our original family doc, I wasn't entirely shocked, yet after much debate he suggested iodine. I'm still clueless as to what the effects might be. Please let me know any ideas.
