Guest guest
Hi All, I have been posting many updates on my 4yo with ASD. Tonight I have another question and well, I am looking for some advice. Thanks in advance! Today is our 7th day on Kirkman's Yeast Aid, increased my son dose to the recommended level on Sat morning. His thrush has flared up again and so did the spitting. What I have done to help with this is I begun giving him Zyme Prime and AFP chewables with meals at the same time I have increased the dose. I am concerned because his behaviors have been very stimmy/stacking and he has been pretty moody also. Terrible crying tantrums/throwing self on floor, hitting own head when upset (for example, if his towers fall, or he can't find the kind of coins he wants to hold...or can't express what he wants exactly). When he is relaxed and better (which would happen all of a sudden, usually, and once we cater to his stim needs) he is wonderful. His non-verbal communication is a lot more accurate, he is able to point a lot more precisely and I certainly understand a lot more of him than before. He has very social moments and fun time and then the tantrums off and on. We have speculated here with you guys that we may be touching both viral and yeast issues with the Yeast Aid since it is a mixture of more things. My son only takes two capsules per day, one before school with his other supplements (SNT, Culturelle, and the two enzymes, and zinc), and one after school in the late afternoon/evening either with his CLO and Flax oil or with his evening stuff (zinc and melatonin, the enzymes and the culturelle). Here are the ingredients again, reduced relative to the amount that my son takes, again broken up into two doses: Vit C 250 mg Biotin 450mcg Selenium 35 mcg OLE 100mg Pau d'arco extract 100 mg Goldenseal extract 50 mg caprylic acid 50mg cranberry extract 12.5 mg oregano 50 mg Dana already responded kindly to comment on this list of ingredients, pointing out that OLE works on viruses as well, which might actually cause yeast overgrowth. I could probably say that this may be happening because of my son's thrush increasing in the oral form (not apparent in BMs) and perhaps behaviors (I mean the stimming/stacking/tantruming/screaming/moodiness described above)... or as some others suggested could be viral die-off? I am just wondering because the behaviors and thrush got worse as I increased his dosage to the recommended amount for his weight. I am taking Yeast Aid with my son, same dosage he does (I don't want to use up his stuff just wanted to try so that I could understand the symptoms/adverse reactions/benefits from it better), and I am still having ear pain, actually some stomack pain that woke me last night, and pain in my feet (the sole). Anyhow, what I would like to know, and would need you advice is on whether I should decrease the Yeast Aid back to 1/2 the recommended dose or should I discontinue it and find another product at the HFS that would work only the yeast issues? I have the feeling that I need to stop using Yeast Aid and just deal with one thing at a time - the yeast. It seems that Yeast Aid has stirred up more things than I wanted to work on momentarily.... Primarily, I would like to start chelating with ALA next weekend, or asap, but I wasn't comfortable starting that until I got my son's yeast issues under control. Now it seems that I have just opened up a can of worms, and I really would not want to delay starting ALA. But my right sense tells me not to begin anything stressful for his body (that would also probably increase yeast issues) until he feels better. I really have the feeling that he is not feeling well. He also has a little cough still and a runy nose... I think Dana's right when she is saying that she does not like products that are " mixtures " exactly for the above reasons described... What do you think of the above issues? And also, is there any one supplement or any hint (deficiency of some kind) when behaviors as described occur, that any one of you knows of? I appreciate any advice you could give me on the above... I have gotten a bit worried seeing my son in such moods and with tempers like that. I know you know the feeling...
