Guest guest
My son was dx with severe bowel disease by Dr. Krigsman. I'm not sure that we're in the same situation but, you may want to google him and read his stuff. If you want more info about our experience w/ him just let me know. Guest guest
Gastroenteritis is defined as inflammation of the lining membrane of the stomach and the intestines. From what I've read the gut mucous membrane is supposed to slough off then re-line itself every fourteen hours or so. I think the large amount of gas might be reduced by drinking a peck of baking soda dissolved in water, but where's the gas coming from? The term " natural yeast protocol " is vague and frankly suspicious, and there is no mention of probiotics in use. Is it possible that whatever you've been doing for the gut has caused a proliferation of unfavorable bacteria? There are a number of things which can create an unfavorable, sour environment in the gut causing beneficial bacteria to die off thus allowing unfriendly bacteria to thrive and predominate in the gut flora. Guest guest
This may be helpful not sure. I found out over the weekend that my daughter is suffering from post-gastroenteritis after having Rotovirus twice within 3 weeks of each other. One thing that he explained at length was that she was constantly nauseated, this was why she was refusing to eat or drink anything. She was also having really bad episodes of hiccupping after eating very little or even drinking an ounce of liquid. These hiccups were bad because she would gulp air and it sounded as if her stomach was turning flips and lots of gas. He explained to me that this happens when the gut has taken a hard hit with (in my daughter's case) a bad virus. He said that the nerves in the intestines become paralyzed and are unable to " push " the food or gas down so that it can be expelled the way it needs to be. In my daughter's case it will take her probably two months for her gut to get back into any type of decent shape. The vomiting comes from this as well. It's like their always full and yet they know they aren't. T's got so bad that we almost went into the hospital. He prescribed Reglan every few hours, suppositories for the vomiting, and she has to take an anti nausea medication as well. She is doing much better, but food intake will be a long battle. I'm not much on Dr's and their meds, but he's a DO, and anything he can do to avoid putting T in the hospital we're all for. He knows that if she goes he has to put us all in. I have a 10 mth old who has never left my side and she'd never make it w/o me at this point, IV's are not T's big thing, and hospital's scare her. When I had the baby, as much as she wanted to see me, she could only stand the hospital for about 10 mins. BIG PIA for us. I hope this helps some. Guest guest
Our yeast protocol includes Kapricydin A twice per day and rotating Biocidin and Uva Ursi every other day. In addition, he takes both Klaire Therbiotic Complete and Klaire Therbiotic Detox twice per day (taken two hours after the anti-fungals). He has been leaking BM minimally and passing lots of gas for a few years. He tends to wait to use the potty until the last minute, so I have previously attributed the leaking BM to that. Our doctors always attributed the gas to the supplements (especially the high dose of vitamin c he has always taken). After completing 40 dives of HBOT last August, his belly became distended (for the first time) and he developed very significant yeast issues. Since HBOT, he has had lot of weird BM issues which was never a problem prior. He has made great behavioral and happiness gains with the yeast protocol. His BM quality has also improved. It is now fully formed all the time. His belly distension has never decreased, though. His belly is very hard. I don't know why his gut is filled with gas. I am looking for that answer as well as the solution. > > Gastroenteritis is defined as inflammation of the lining membrane of the stomach and the intestines. Guest guest
Thanks, Karyn! The dr. did suggest that my son may be gulping air, but I don't think so. Despite the gut filled with gas, he eats quite a lot of food. I am full with less food than it takes him to feel full (or so he says). I have to put strong limits on his food intake - otherwise, I don't know if he would stop eating. He always says he is hungry. I don't know what that means - does he just like to eat? or is he truly hungry? I think you have brought up an interesting point. Your daughter doesn't want to eat because of her gut condition. Maybe my son never feels full because of his gut condition. And, as a note, he is eating healthy food - mostly meat and vegetables (he loves those). > > This may be helpful not sure. Guest guest
, My non asd son had issues with chronic constipation and I completely understand what you have to do! I had to use a wire hanger to break the huge stool before flushing! So I feel your pain! We have tried a number of things for this including Miralax which I do not recommend! When I took him to CHOP, that was one of the recommendations to get the stool out. Sitting at least 3 times a day and pushing for 3 minutes. Oh, my son was also dx with a redundant colon (excess colon-distended belly) after a barium enema. Have you ever completely emptied him out with Fleet enemas? We had to do this for 7 days straight to get it all out. If not, the colon is completely stretched out and this is why he doesn't have the sensation to go until there is too much. What worked for us are digestive enzymes, especially the No Fenol since it tends to loosen the stool (Zyme Prime with firm the stools). Magnesium, fish oils, apricot nectar juice, prunes or prune juice etc... The doctor told me that you have to keep things pretty loose for at least 6 months until the colon can shrink back to size. I have not used this product, but my ND recommend this for my mom who has GERD as well as my aunt who has chronic constipation issues. Standard process Okra Pepsin E3. http://www.nationaldiscountvitamins.com/details.cfm?Group_ID=12 & Product_ID=136 My mom swears by it for gastrointestinal health. I would also check with your ND about this. I just wonder if this could help clean him out and begin to heal his gut. Just a thought. Guest guest
My son had a lot of GI symptoms. Enough that we did an upper endoscopy and colonoscopy. It finally turned out that he just had new IgG food allergies. All the GI symptoms went away one week after I removed the offending food (beans, lentils, eggs, soy, lettuce, grapefruit...). I also re-started HNI enzymes. It has been 2 months and still no GI symptoms... yeah! > > My son had a KUB today and was diagnosed with severe gastroenteritis (by our > pediatrician - not a DAN! dr. but sympathetic). Guest guest
This suggests the possibilities of 1. some type of unrecognized food allergy, and/or 2. needing to be on the SCD rather than GFCF, or in addition. Also, his insides are run by his vagus nerve - does he have other problems than just GI that say this is out of whack? It can be out of whack in certain kinds of epilepsy, too. I realize this is quite frustrating but it isn't terribly obvious what the propblem is. > My son had a KUB today and was diagnosed with severe gastroenteritis (by our > pediatrician - not a DAN! dr. but sympathetic). Guest guest
, I don't know if it is relevant to your situation, be we had a lot of the same issues (gas, distension, constipation) that improved significantly when we removed orange foods from my son's diet (no more squash, sweet potatoes, etc.). Interestingly, his labs went from indicating some kind of chronic infection to reasonably normal after we made this change. It has also let us be less restrictive about my son's diet (for example, we were able to add raw goat's milk), as we seem to have found the major source of my son's stomach/pooping issues.
