Guest guest
My wife controls muscle spasms by taking 50 mg zinc gluconate every other day. However, she does not have MS. She has had RA starting in her teens and is allergic to LDN and a great variety of supplements, even vitamin B12!! She very rarely gets a spasm unless she forgets the zinc. Guest guest
I take 20 mg Baclofen at night before going to bed along with my LDN. If not, I would not get ANY sleep. My spasms are of the violent nature. Once my leg is contracted up to my chest, it is pure hell trying to get it straightened out. Gentle stretching doesn't phase these types of spasms. You have tested in the past for hypothyroidism and this causes spasticity, your MRI while being on LDN shows no disease progression or active lesions after being on LDN 3 years. You are extremely exhausted all the time just doing nothing and your spasticity has worsened. I think you need to get your thyroid re-investigated and possibly start some sort of treatment, traditional or alternative if you test again hypothyroid. Check with the doc in Odessa to see if he can do a thyroid test on you.
Guest guest
My allopathic doctor in Lubbock did put me on Synthroid because TSH and T3 were low. I don't know why he doesn't check T4, but I won't go there. It has helped to raise my B/P from the 90/60 range to 110/70. I'm still tired all of the time though. Hey, I'm going on 4 years with LDN! I was always the type that doing nothing made me more tired than doing back-breaking work! Once the weather gets cooler, I'll probably try to get back to Odessa to the alternative doc. Guest guest
The spasms I am talking about are only in my right leg (where my MS shows up the most) and they come on suddenly and stop me in my tracks. My whole leg gets rigid and twisted and the sensations are like I am having a seizure. My foot actually curls up. The baclafen seems to help prevent them in the last few days, but I am going to try some of the supplements that people suggested. Stretching is not an option with these---I can't move when they occur. I have only had them about a dozen times over the years. I don't know what these episodes are, has anyone else experienced them? Do they have a specific name? Thanks to all who answered with suggestions. JoyceSee what's new at AOL.com and Make AOL Your Homepage. Guest guest
Hi Joyce, Regarding your spasms in your leg. I take Baclofen 20 3 times per day for spasticity. The " spasms " you have sound a lot like mine. I have actual " spasms " maybe once a month, usually when I wake up in the morning. Usually always laying in bed. This happens even while on Baclofen or close to in between doses. Somewhat of a jerking pull backwards of my left foot. Lasts about 3 to seconds (?) then slowly relaxes. Very rigid. I was dx'd with ? MS August of 2006. My Nero apparently does not know what kind I have. He claims it is " clinical " at best... Oh brother. Anyway. I can tell you I almost literally could not walk without falling down, sometimes not very gracefully, either, without Baclofen. I take it along with Lyrica 150 (Lyrica twice per day)and most of the time walk okay. Shakey and unsteady most of the time, and with a limp, sometimes barely noticeable for short distances. It usually depends on stress and how much I have been laying around versus walking. Also: During my DX tests, I went to an Orthopaedist. She did several physi cal tests, watched me walk (badly) then sat me down. She looked at my left foot, which was obviously clenched upward. She said, " odd " . She then took a sharp tonsil depressor and scratched the bottom of my foot. It jumped about a foot in the air and remained very drawn backward, much like my (and probably yours) spasms. Then watched it slowly relax. Repeated. Brought in another Dr. to watch her repeat it a third time. Both at once, they looked at each other and said: " that's neuro, not ortho " That was when I was first told I probably had MS. Your clenching and curling toes and foot/leg spasms seem to be normal symptoms for many of us. And, Baclofen is one of the most widely recommended scripts for this type of spasticity. Some people use Tinzanidine instead with good results. I hope this info is helpful to you. I'm not the expert here. It's just my little take on things.
