Guest guest
- I've come to believe my son is an undermethylator too! Do you use TMG? Can you share more of your protocol for this problem? Thanks so much! Colleen V.
Guest guest
Harumi, I'm no expert, but I wanted to respond to some of your questions b/c my son sounds a lot like yours. My son got very hyper on all of the b-vitamins (b6, folenic, p5p, MB12) and DMG. After doing some research and corresponding with other parents on lists like these, it seemed clear that my son was an " undermethylator. " Take a look at the information on www.danasview.net/phenol.htm. The site explains the relationship between phenols and methylation and the b-vitamins. Also, read the files in the " asd_solutions " group. There's some great information there. ALso, the " enzymes and autism " group has some helpful information. Go to files, then " related topics and supplements " and click on methylation. We recently changed DAN! docs b/c our first DAN! doc was not addressing my concerns about hyperactivity on B-vitamins. She put him on high-dose MB12, and he was outrageously hyper, but didn't seem to have a plan for figuring out the underlying issues. Our new DAN! doc (Dr. DeMio in Ohio) has come up with a plan for addressing these issues so that we can get the methylation " spokes " working again. I have used both for my kids, and both of them tremendously feed yeast [almost as bad as mB12 feeds yeast]. And night waking and 2 hour giggling, for my son, meant yeast overgrowth. Try increasing your yeast protocol, see if that helps. > We had a methyl B12 shot in January (and it was 5mg I think) and my > son got very very hyper... This happened to my son with oral mB12. I had to reduce the dose, give it with folic acid, and increase the yeast protocol. Then there were nice improvements. Dana
Guest guest
Colleen, We haven't yet started any of the new stuff the doc wants to do. (I talked to him for the first time on Thursday of this week.) I know that he wants to start with TMG and see how does with that (since DMG made him hyper), and we're going to start some antivirals soon (b/c my son is high on his titers for rubella, rubeola and HHV06). When I get all of the paperwork and compare it to my notes from the phone call, I'll be glad to post what we're doing. HIH, > > - > I've come to believe my son is an undermethylator too! Guest guest
My son is a patient of Dr. N -- or actually somone new who works for him -- Rigalski. Answers to your questions are below. harumistew <ct-stewarts@...> wrote: Hi all, Recently when I was searching about Folinic Acid and Hyperacitivity, I found Dr. Neubrander's Methyl B12 protocol. My Son is 6 year and 10 months old, and weighs about 50 lbs. He is on his second round of Diflucan right now (it made a huge difference at the first round - talking more in a sentense, very aware and more social and less 'foggy') and after the anti-fungal we were thinking of starting chelation. Our DAN Doctor told me to add Folinic acid 800mg 3 days after starting anti-fungal treatment, then add methyl b12 shot, and then transdermal glutathione. I added Folinic acid and he bacame very hyper - he woke at 3am and started to giggle for 2 hours! He WAs a good sleeper and took me a while to realize that maybe Folinic acid was messiong his system. So - I read Dr. Neubrander's report about methly B12 and am very intersted in it. He said about 20% of kids who take folinic acid (not sure with B12 shot or not)has a sleeping problem! Has anyone been following his protocol? Our Dan doc prescribed higher dose of B12 than Dr. Neudrander suggests in his paper - which is 1.6 mg for my son's weight(where as our Dan gave us 2.5mg). We had a methyl B12 shot in January (and it was 5mg I think) and my son got very very hyper...we did not see any significant change in his language nor his behaviors so we only did it once. We did a organic acid test in February and it suggested that my son is low in Folic acid/vitamin Bs that is why I think DAN suggested those supplements for him... Here is my questions... 1.Dr. Neubrander says you should not add any supplements during the first 5 week of methyl B12 - should we wait to start chelation too? The idea behind waiting 5-6 weeks is to see if your child is a responder to MB12. If you add anything else to the protocal and you see a reaction (good or bad), you may not be sure as to what caused the reaction. Therefore, I think you are better off waiting. 2. Does anyone follow Dr. Neubrander's protocol? ANy success or did not work for some reasons? We have been following his protocal for about 4 months. Our son (5 years, 3 months) is a mild responder and has responded mildly. All kids are different. 3. How can you be a patient of Dr. Neubrander? Can your DAN work with Dr.N? I don't think Dr. Nuebrander is taking new patients for another 2 years. However, you may get one of the new DAN Drs like Rigalski. Dr. Nuebrander is a DAN doctor. I'm not sure why you would want him to work with another DAN doctor. Thank you so much in advance, Harumi =======================================================
Guest guest
Thanks for those who responded to my post. It is hard to spend time on PC when the kids are out of school! Anyhow- I will look into Folic Acid and Folinic acid - it is funny, as Dana mentioned that Folinic(folic) acid feeds yeast for her son - two days ago I found a LOT of red pimples on his bottocks which is his classic sympton of yeast overgrowth - even though he is on 100mg of Diflucan (and he was a good responder to Diflucan before)...we did not change his diet so the only thing I can think of was Folic acid....it has been 6 days since we stopped giving him Folinic acid and his yeast is slowing going down(i hope).. , I was thinking of becoming Dr. Neubrander's patient because our DAN doctor's instruction is slightly different from Dr.N's. Her recommending dose for Mthyl B12 was twice as much as Dr.N suggests in his paper and I am very confused with which one to go. I feel like I messed up my son's system following my DAN doctor's instruction of giving 1600mg of folinic acid and after reading a lot of reports and messages of B12, I am totally lost. My DAN doc told me that about 60% is a responder to B12 shot whereas Dr. N said 90% is a responder...so Dr.N appealed to me more:) For now I will jsut keep his diflucan treatment to see if his yeast sympton goes down and then decide whether we try B12 shot or not. thanks, Harumi Hi all, > > Recently when I was searching about Folinic Acid and Hyperacitivity, I > found Dr. Neubrander's Methyl B12 protocol. > > My Son is 6 year and 10 months old, and weighs about 50 lbs. Guest guest
Hi: What different from Folinic Acid and Folic Acid that make Folinic feed yeast? Thanks Jeanne harumistew <ct-stewarts@...> wrote: Thanks for those who responded to my post. It is hard to spend time on PC when the kids are out of school!
