Guest guest
Hi, My son is will be 3 in a couple weeks...he's been receiving speech therapy for a year now...back when he turned 2 is when we took him to be evaluated since he didn't babble or say " mamma/dada " ....he's never had an official diagnosis but we were told if there were to be one, it would be a very mild autism. But they've declined to give a diagnosis, since he has some autistic traits, but he has many that are not typical of autism...so we started speech therapy...the progress was slow but there...we were always hoping he would start talking when he got a little older...my daughter was behind in the speech business also for sure, but she never exhibited anything remotely autistic, so there never was a worry there. What are his problems? Lack of speech was number one. At least that's what it was in our mind. He would not point at things, he would take your hand and place it on whatever he wanted. He was also a very curious guy, he was always exploring around. He never lined up objects, or played with stuff inappropriately...he smiles at other people... he did like to open and close doors, more of a peek-a-boo thing for him... he toe walked once in a while....you could see he did this purposely, like it was fun for him...he walks normal if he wants ....and we thought it was cute at the time...I became alarmed when I read that most speech delayed kids did this... his therapist did note that he liked to bite things alot...if a toy were a rubbery or plastic item, he did like to bite on it a lot...sometimes I'd catch him smelling objects, but sometimes...as far as hearing, loud noise did not bother him...just the standard kid stuff, was afraid of the vacuum cleaner when he was little, but he does not care...he likes fans, maybe give it a couple twirls and move onto something else...sometimes he does that that to my CD player in my boombox, but just for 15 seconds...he's never had a problem sleeping at night...bottom line, I see autistic traits, but to a very mild degree, but speech being a biggy...the speech therapist proclaims, he is not an autistic kid. We started ALA 3 months back. We have not been very successful at getting him to eat it, usually it's pin him down, force him to eat it ....he spits up some...this past weekend I was able to throw it into Trix Kiddie Yogurt and he gobbled it down now problem!...he can usually taste it no matter what I mix in, even straight Hershey's liquid chocolate or syrup!...but Trix seems to work...and as far as night time, we haven't even tried...I know about regression, and I haven't seen any of it..he's been making good progress every week though, and I've added DMSA in...my wife is dead set against chelation, but I'm not giving her any choice in the matter...I've read too much that leads me to believe I should... After 3 months of so-so ALA treatment, on the weekends, but never over night...he has been showing signs of progress...but even his therapist has noted that he does not bite things anymore...clouding this, is the fact his back molars have finally shown up, I always wondered if this had anything to do with it...the past couple of weekends, I've been very forceful in getting the ALA into him, and have added DMSA... (still not over night)...and we've noted very good progress...even my wife who was against it, does not protest...he is using 2-3 words combinations..some words are very easy for him to say, some words are still very difficult for him to say, but I see progress...as far as supplementing him, I've been giving regular kids vitamins everyday, a dose equal to 3.5 year old...I'm lucky that he even takes that... I'll be more relieved when I see him attempt to play with other kids. ...he plays with his older sister (when they're not fighting...she rarely wants to share her toys!)...I see that he wants to, but I get the feeling the lack of speech (and receptive speech) is hampering it greatly...(I saw the same thing with my daughter, when she started preschool, her speech was not very understandable (but not to us), and she tended to end up playing by herself (not that she wanted to)...I get alarmed when I take him to a kids museum, and he wants to play with door or fire extinguisher or run into the bathroom to play with the faucet/running water when there's other kids playing about with other toys...I usually steer him away from those things, and his interest changes...I think the chelation is helping him being more like a " normal " kid...the great thing he started doing 3 weeks ago, is I put him into his bed, and say night-night, and he puts himself to sleep...usually, I've always had to sleep with him for 15 minutes and then sneak off... I've been giving him Nordic Naturals CLO and flax seed...I kind of rotate through both of then... Sorry for rambling on but here's my real questions for you all..I see a lot of talk of yeast problems and gut problems...how do I know if I'm facing those problems?...he does not have any digestive issues at all..what is this ViraStop, and will it help me at all? If there anything else I should be doing for sure...I've only recently ordered a hair test for the first time...I started chelation without it...I'm anxiously waiting for it to show up... He had 2 Flu shots a month apart when he was 9 months old....and 1 when he was 1.8 years old....I haven't checked, but I'm pretty sure it would've had mercury in them...I don't think he'll be getting any shots at his 3 year check up....I was thinking that next time he's scheduled for shots that I would definitely demand to see the insert with it, and also make sure any multiple vaccine shots are separated. ...I'm inclined to think it would be okay to give him regular shots, but definitely not Flu shots (mercury)...I am wrong in thinking this? -Joe

Guest guest
Welcome Judy! I wish you the best of luck on your journey. I know it is hard to love ourselves the way we are but do, become your own best friend! Hope to see your posts often. Kim > > Hello friends, > > I am new to the concept, and am so thrilled that someone at Spark People told me about this program! I am 54, been heavy my entire life and know that diets don't work long term. I have been struggling emotionally with many issues, past and present, and I know this is the key to being free from food obsession and compulsion. > > My main focus is to love and accept myself NOW, not when I lose 50, 60, 70+ pounds.. I deserve health and happiness, and I know this program will make me see that clearly. I am also reading a book entitled " You can Heal your life " by Louise Hay.. It is in her book where I realized that my problem at the deepest level is that I don't love and accept myself. Quite the opposite. I know that the two programs combined will be a hard, but worthwhile and successful journey. > > Looking forward to getting to know you all better! > > Judy > NW Illinois >
