IME it can't be until he's chelated. If his gut is is terrible shape (chronic diarrhea, galloping yeast, impaction) it makes sense to get it in better shape before starting-- but if I had waited for healing I wouldn't have gotten anywhere. Guest guest
Abid, Does your son have digestive issues? Is he allergic to any foods? Does he need a special diet? Do you notice any acid reflux problems? Issues with diarrhea or constipation? Yeast? Acting as if he is in pain in his stomach? If not, then his gut may be in fairly good shape. Be prepared, however, to battle yeast when you start the chelators. (We just give 6 drops of GSE during chelating days and some Culturelle.) Barb [ ] What are the Prerequisites for Chelation? Guest guest
Oh, and of course, your son will need all the supplements once he starts chelating to keep his mineral levels high and support his liver--supplements like high ViT C, mineral complexes like mineral or Biomin II, Vit E, Milk Thistle (for the liver) etc. Also make sure your fish oil is mercury-free! Guest guest
Hello Barb, To answer your questions: My son has regular BMs. No indication of acid reflux or stomach pains. According to an IgG test, he is sensitive to several foods -- all 1s -- except for his favorite food -- eggs which he is a 4. We just stopped all eggs and give him Houston enzymes with all his foods now. However, I do believe he has yeast issues. I base this on his behaviors -- his spitting, mouthing and hyperactivity. So I guess I need to fight this yeast. What is " GSE " & " culturelle " ? Please advise how to fight the yeast. Thanking you in advance. Guest guest
Grapefruit Seed Extract is a yeast-killer that comes in a bottle. (Notice this is NOT Grapeseed Extract. I got them mixed up at first.) Put a number of drops (my son uses 6-8 but he's an adult) in some water and have him drink it. Our doc told us to use this throughout chelating and maybe a day or two later. Culturelle is a probiotic. Another good yeast killer is oil of oregano which can be bought as an essential oil (you mix one drop with regular oil and rub into the feet) or capsules. From personal experience, works better if you start chelation and healing the gut at the same time. Healing the gut is almost impossible without chelation. In other words chelating makes it easier for the gut to heal. > So far, I am doing the following: > > Methyl B-12 > Diet with Houston Enzymes > probiotics > Hyperbaric Oxygenation > Dr. Neubrander's Vitamin Powder (contains C, E ...) > fish oil > Carnaware > > Is my son ready? I am not sure what's in that powder, but you need more minerals (if they are not already included) like Zinc, Magnesium, Molybdenum (if it's needed), some kids do well with Calcium but not all of them, Selenium, etc. Also, you need some B vitamins. B12 is not enough. Maybe Milk Thistle, Taurine, anything else that might help your son. A lot of people complain about yeast overgrowth with chelation. It is not our experience (we had more problem with bacteria rather than yeast), but in case you want to be prepared for that... GSE seems to work nicely, other enzyme-based supplements. Good luck! Guest guest
Wow! I don't know... if your son is OK with that powder, then great! I would never give such a product to my son though because for sure he would react to some of those ingredients. If you just start with supplements, you cannot possibly know which one is the culprit. Also, consider that your son might benefit from higher doses of some of those vitamins, but not from others. I think it's OK for the beginning if your son tolerates this product well, but maybe later you might like to see if he would benefit from higher doses of one (or more) particular vitamin/supplement. You can find milk thistle at any HFS. It helps the liver produce more bile. So it's particularly important if you plan on chelating with ALA, but helpful for liver in general. Guest guest
We also use a multivitamin/mineral powder from Life Extension Foundation. Works out very well for us. I know it's not for every child, bu sometimes you get lucky :-) Re: [ ] What are the Prerequisites for Chelation? Is my son ready? Wow! I don't know... if your son is OK with that powder, then great! Guest guest
Milk thistle is an essential herb for liver support. It helps your child's liver handle the mercury more easily. Again, check your health food store although I think I saw this at Wal-Mart recently. Barb Re: [ ] What are the Prerequisites for Chelation?
