Mark,

There's a good discussion of poop color implications on

enzymestuff.com. Have you looked there? My son's poops have tended

towards the tan, so we added some ox bile (which I am quite sure would

take the award for the most disgusting, foul, putrid smelling and

tasting supplement available on the market) and that seems to be doing

very good things for him. But I think I did read that titanium

dioxide can cause white poops. Curious, why are you giving your son

something with titanium dioxide in it?

Milkshakes, I am told actually have an inert filler ingredient called

diatomaceous earth in them. DE is also used as media for pool filtration, as an

abrasive in toothpastes, and even pretty cleverly as pesticides. The white

cliffs of Dover are diatoms.

When crushed to a powder DE has microscopically sharp edges that contact the

insect or parasite, and pierce their protective coating, so they soon dehydrate

and die. For pests walking over DE powder is like us walking over a bed of

broken glass.

I don't know if anyone has associated diatomaceous earth in milkshakes or other

food products with microscopic abrasions in the throat. Even at the microscopic

level wouldn't sharp edges be capable of creating throat irritations and

possibly assisting the acid reflux phenomena? There seems to be a lot of acid

reflux these days. Maybe DE as a food filler is causing microscopic slices in

throat tissue making it hypersensitive to any acid contact?

Our son (3 1/2 ASD) was having that milkshake poop. We cut out all of

our son's supplements. We got the first normal poop (consistency and

shape). All except that it was light grey, or nearly white, and there

were a couple blood spots, and he strained like hell to get it out).

What do we do now? What test should be done? Could this be

hepatitis? Could this be from his potato-based milk (which has

titanium dioxide)?

The wife thinks this is normal. Should we just add taurine? Thanks!

Have you considered/tried some of the other dairy-free mylks? We use Pacific

brand almond low-fat vanilla. Wide price range, locally the better price is at

Trader Joe's.

Hi Anne;

Thanks for your reply. To answer your question, it seems that cow's

milk has casein which is bad for him. Then almond and soy milk are

high oxalate. Rice milk is one alternative, potato milk is the other.

So we had bought a bunch of the stuff per advise of a parent whose

kid loved it. Our kid doesn't like it so much so we may try rice

milk. But I think rice milk has a lot of sugar in it, right?

Hi;

I meant the consistency of his poop was previously like that of a

milkshake (for want of a better example). Not that I feed him milk

shakes. They put DE in food??? Really? That's disgusting. I've

seen the mines up in Lompoc where they dig that white stuff out of the

ground. I thought they just used it in gypsum board. Anyways I

wouldn't put it into the body.

I'm a big believer in giving filtered water, period. It helps them not

to confuse being hungry with being thirsty, and it has no crap and no

sugar. Potatoes and rice can cause major gut trouble.

Plus, once your kid is doing better you can give them an occasional

juice box and they'll think they won the lottery :).

This is not normal :)

Taurine might help. Digestive enzymes (lipase) might help. Bile might help.

Lecithin is good too.

For my son this happens because he cannot digest fats.

The white powder on sticks of chewing gum is marble.

I complained for 3 1/2 yrs (since his birth) to my son's regular

pediatrician that he never had a regular bowel movement. Usually

smelly and yellow. He told me that a gastroenterologist told him

that if the poop is not black, white or red not to worry about it.

So, I would get him checked for peace of mind.

My son's poop straightened out after going to the DAN doctor and

being treated for yeast and other deficiencies.

One can make zucchini mylk...though they're not in season here now. Might be

worth a try and people will probably be willing to give you their extra zukes

from the garden in the summer!

A recipe website states: " 1967 newspaper article stated: peel, seed and chunk

zucchini. Use your blender to make a " milk " . I did, I tried and I liked. " milk "

can be frozen also. "

Try adding magnesium and/or vitamin C first.

Yes, this is a likely possiblity. Titanium dioxide is used in

Dairy-Free and other products, it colors things white.
