Someone on this list's child had a horrible regression from miralax. It was

probably about 4 years ago or so. I don't remember which family. whether they

ended up figuring out a way of reversing the regression, or how long they used

it.

Just an fyi..many of you may already know this. The doc prescribed
miralax for my 3.5 year old. We only had two doses ( not the adult
dose but one figured for his size). Let me say...hyper! I couldn't
talk to him and get through. Not to mention the foulest gas and no
poop.

I stopped in at the second dose. At day three with no success I just
bought some probiotics and gave them before bed. In the am we added
administered some babylax. All better now.

His problem going was worse after giving the two doses. He went from
going a little many times a day, to not at all. I really did not think
the hyper effect was a good sign either.

Might want to avoid using this if given a choice.
I think there is an entire group, or at least a website

devoted to the horror stories of Miralax! I used it (prior to

having our ASD child) successfully with my NT daughter... only 2

doses solved our problem. Amazing how different the outcomes are

between my daughter and your child. Makes me wonder just how lucky

I might have been.

I hope you can get things back on track very soon.

I have a personal story from a parent whose child has a nasty Miralax

experience, and a bit of her research, on this page

http://www.danasview.net/miralax.htm

Here is my page of constipation info and ideas

Nasty stuff! My son developed eye tics while on it. Nasty, nasty stuff. Check

out the Miralax for more horror tales. My son got off easily

compared to lots of kids.

I am so glad that you stopped this! We had the most horrible experience

with this and this product, IMO, should NEVER be used with children. If

you need some ideas with constipation issues... e-mail me offlist at jhines

@ ptd.net (all together). My son who will be 5 on Wednesday has this under

control now.

We didn't have a horrible experience like many others did, but I am

so glad my son is off that stuff. It takes some effort, as I am

sure Jackie will tell you, but it is well worth the effort. Miralax

is nasty nasty nasty stuff. And many of our kids with their leaky

guts react horribly! Please feel free to email me as well if you

need some additional input or support in this area. I found out (or

suspect) that it is much more complicated even than I ever could

have imagined, and really stemmed from thyroid issues and bile

production issues.

Best,

Anne

I fixed him. Probiotics, and a baby enema. He is fine now.

I just can't beleive they prescribe stuff like this. What ever

happend to prune juice or something? The nurse tells me on the

phone, " it might say on the bottle, not for children. Just ignore

this. WE use it all the time and find it works well in kids " .

I was skeptical already when she said that.

Jan,

Just be aware that you may need to give him another enema tomorrow just to

make he is completely cleaned out. We had to fleet my son for 7 days to

completely empty him before all of the natural stuff could work. The ped

gastro told me I may have to fleet him for up to 10 days. Please watch him

closely. We were on Miralax for a year before I got smart..... I got a lot

smarter with a lot of things a year ago! LOL!

Keep us posted!

I am happy to say that he did not go yesterday, probably all out of

poop from that enema. He went and went all weekend after the enema.

But today, he produced his first normal, soft bowel movement. The

only things we did was start and keep him on probiotics!! I can't

beleive the difference. He seems a bit calmer, happier as well.

I also files a adverse event report with the FDA about that " crap "

that passes for medicine. Am I too understand that this stuff is

related to antifreeze? Polyethylene glycol and ethelyne glycol?

Common sense says the Poly isn't cancelling out the antifreeze

ingredient!

I am sorry your son suffered so with Miralax. I am glad I followed

my instinct and stopped it at the second dose.

Jan,

PEG is found as an ingredient in antifreeze and alot of other things we

inject! Keep up the probiotics and watch for any early signs of a back

up. You really need him to go everyday!!! If he went and went and went....

it takes up to 6 months for the colon to shrink back into it's normal size,

so this is why you want him to try and push. He may not have the sensation

to have to go. That is the bad part about chronic constipating and

withholding behaviors.

I also have children's senokot on hand (Fletcher's is the name from WalMart)

to use from time to time before I will use an enema. It typically works

over night.

Keep us posted on his progress!

Hey, he pooped again twice today. Normal, no struggles. Etc.

I still have a large bottle of poly crap here. Maybe I can make an

art project with it! LOL...

Know what really burns me about this. I asked the nurse on the phone

when she said the doctor recommended we try this, what it was. She

said it was a vegetable based laxative. What vegetable exactly is

that?
